Yeah, I was gonna comment....I've heard good things about Angel Dee's but since I don't go to major shows, and have only gone to the website, I haven't been impressed. If you can't do a website well, you shouldn't do one at all, imho when it comes to something like coins (where most are unique and have character).

Well I don't know.
Angel Dee's seems to have a very loyal clientele who count on them to send out great Lincolns.
They have a return privilege and I wouldn't hesitate to order from Andy after seeing so many of his coins in the Lincoln registry and hearing many good things about him.

That's fine and dandy, but for those that don't go to shows and see them, and like a certain look in a coin, do you just risk dealing with returns (which, I don't like and I am sure dealers don't like)?
Do you just assume that all MS66RB lincolns look the same or should be accepted?
I mean, seriously, some of us like buying sight seen or at least seeing a picture so we have some idea of what the coin looks like. Trust comes into play after that, for most, I would think.
From a business standpoint, I think it is great that Angel Dee's has a loyal following but, if it were my business, and if it wouldn't alienate customers I already have, then I wouldn't mind changing my business a little if it gave me more customers and more business (ie....adding pictures). Are people really that resistant to change around here?

Bochiman, I pretty much agree with you. I know Alynne(Andy's wife) was taking some classes on photography, but to keep up with their schedule of so many shows, it had to go on the back burner for a while. I can completely understand that, as there is definitely a steep learning curve to taking good photos.
I took a chance the first time I bought a coin from them. It was a 1952-D PCGS MS66RB that was way way above the price for a 66RD(at the time, this was highly unusual as I was buying many many RB coins that were quite beautiful((to me at least ))for far less than their RD counterparts). The two word description? If I remember correctly, it was 'Incredible toning'. I called him on the phone and asked for a better description. He then told me a little more about the coin and told me that if I didn't like it to simply return it. Based on his good reputation around here, I decided to go ahead and mail the check and a few days later my new coin showed up.
This first purchase was the first of many for me from Angel Dee's..........and I have never had to return a coin, although I like to consider myself very very picky as to what I will buy.

No, I don't. However, I am on the West Coast and don't do most of my coin buying until after I get home, take care of my son, spend time with him, eat dinner, put him to bed, then start to relax.
Guess that isn't allowed, right?
That's fine...I miss out on some nice items but I have a happier home life
btw....I give some feedback on their site/practice and my thoughts behind it and you come back with calling me antisocial basically. Nice. Appreciate it.
I agree with everything 66RB stated above. Nice coins are worth a small premium. So far I've only done one purchase with Andy but I plan on doing more.
Yes, I believe he has great coins and is great to work with. If I had seen that coin (or even a close picture) then I would buy it if I liked the price and what it appeared to be. If anyone looks at a chronology of my pictures on these boards, they will understand I certainly know how difficult coin (esp copper) pics are. I also understand how busy being a dealer can be.
I still believe that if you have a website you would want to make it more user-friendly and, if dealing in coins, at least attempt some pics. With a reputation that Andy has around here, I think many would accept even "learning" pictures knowing the coins would be leagues beyond the pictures.
Since Andy isn't part of this thread, I won't continue discussing what I think would help his business nor defend my way of buying to someone who wants to think of me as antisocial because I won't call a dealer at 10pm, or later, his time.
<< <i>I still believe that if you have a website you would want to make it more user-friendly and, if dealing in coins, at least attempt some pics. >>
We're in agreement. One reason I haven't purchased more from Andy, Dick Osborn, etc., etc. >>
Yeah...Dick is the other one I was thinking of. No problems at shows (saw him at FUN'05 and LB'06) and I see the ads, but, it is his choice to stay old school. I just end up buying elsewhere
Andy is a top-notch person that has some of the nicest Lincoln Cents in town. I have dealt with Angel Dee's in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
I can live without the pictures on his website as I know what to expect from Andy based upon past experiences. And if I don't like a coin upon receipt, I know that I can simply return it without any hassle. Pictures would definitely be a plus but I'm sure that Andy has his reasons.
Typically, I never buy sight unseen and can understand why many won't. Angel Dee's is clearly the exception for me not the rule.

Works great for those that know what to expect and what they want....for some, we like to do spot purchases (like the mercs I picked up this weekend....wasn't looking for them but saw them, their toning, and didn't even dicker on the price. Just bought them). I've done that with RCNH and with JJTeaparty as well. Though, only on coins with desc and pic.
Bochiman brings up some excellent and legitimate points regarding the lack of images on sites such as Dick Osburn and Andy Skrabalak. I agree that it would be wonderful to have high quality images on those sites since the dealers themselves appear to be both quite nice and quite knowledgable. Unfortunately, they have yet to be able to produce images they are satisfied with and this likely holds down their internet-based sales. I have the luxury of seeing both Andy and Dick several times a year at shows here in the east and this is where I do my business with them. However, they would likely both do well to take heed of Bochiman's thoughts.
