snowman24, I got this reply back from James Wiles on the 1989 Cent
<< <i>TextIt appears that your 1989 cent has the standard RDV-006 which has undergone die deterioration on maybe a little over abrasion. >>
This one is the 1988 with the Flared G in the designers initials. Will have to wait untill Tuesday Night for more Pics. I'm off to work out of town for 2 days. Best, br2055.
note on yours that the G is oval shaped ...taller... has a lot of space between the upright post of the G and the very top of the G's ending point.
RDV-006 is a squatier ...more rounded like a circle with a kick stand on the bottom right... not nearly as much space between the upright post and the very top ending point of the G.
here some pics from variety vista web site on the font style of the "AM" the other letters have the difference also this is the 86 to 88 style then the 89 to 92 style then here is pic that J.Wiles took of my 1988 cent for his web site you can see what style it falls under - hope this helps
BR2055 - sorry that your trying so hard but it still doesnt look like to me from the pics
one thing before i sent my 1988 cent to James W to look at it - i tested myself if that sounds silly - i didnt want to waste my time and someone elses
i gathered about 75-100 pennies with dates to 86 to 92 and flipped them all over with the dates down and i sorta them by the 2 different types- i think i got almost all of them right and looked at the few i got wrong and figured what i was looking at. then i did it a few times - i also did it without trying to looking at the "FG" and it was tougher but sorta got the same result but the 1988 always ended over in the 89-92 pile
i would suggest maybe testing yourself with this cent - i dont know what else to say or maybe send it to James W to look at it ??

great pics! couldn't answer your question tho
i sent the first one to James Wiles and he listed it on his variety web site
looks like its started a frenzy
can we see the reverse - the whole side -
from your pics it might be but its hard to tell - looks like a weak strike
the font style is very subtle from the 88 to 89 is another way to tell

That sounds like a digital camera or somethin'.
Or an SUV.

<< <i>Wow nice pics. I need to get a clue about lincoln cents and the thousands of varieties. >>
BIG CLUE
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
sure does look like a hook in the "G" and the top part of the "F" is longer
still would like to see the whole picture
The G has the horizontal bar, but I don't see the lower kickstand. I thought the ones made in 1988 did not have the horizontal bar.
the other letters have the difference also
this is the 86 to 88 style
