Curt Schilling autos are selling at a premium. His 1996 Leaf Signature Series card was selling for around $2 before the WS. Last one I saw sold for over $20.
bah.....not like you'll finally be able to command a decent, respectable price for a Boggs rookie......maybe it's finally time to get those Mike Greenwell rookies graded....
<< <i>Red Sox nation is a bunch of band wagon jumpers.....I mean they are willing to take A-Rod... >>
Not true, you'd be suprised how many hard core Sox fans there are, myself being one of them. Third generation to be exact.
And as far as ARod goes, I do NOT want him on the Sox. And I am pretty sure that 99% of Red Sox Nation feels the same way. Didn't you hear after game 4 of the World Series, the Sox fans chanting "Re sign Lowell, re sign Lowell!" I think it would be a huge mistake on Theo's part to go after ARod. And I read yesterday that the Sox have made an offer to Lowell and ARod to the Dodgers is possible according to Torre.
But to answer the question that started this thread, I think you see a teams or players cards spike across the board when the team or player does well. There is always a huge interest created with doing well that causes a spike in prices for a while. Within a few months things will come back down to normal again.
ALL the older Bostonians I know would never substitute humble, hard working Mikey Lowell with Arod... Or any of the (blue-collar) Sox' for that matter.
And I'm certain it haslittle to do with his NYY affiliation (he's an alumnus of many cities), but the pretty boy/ glitz and glamour aura he's identified for.

There is no such thing as a blue collar player in baseball. Most of the players are multimillionaires including Lowell.
The game appears to come so easy for A-Rod, so he gets a reputation of not being hard working when in reality the exact opposite is true. Of course opting out of a megabuck contract for even more money is crazy, and adds to hate.
DrJ. You're a newbee so I'll state the *obvious here I think you realize this, but just need to see your words on the WWW... Back in Usenet days, we called it trolling.

Hey guys, I started this thread to get some knowledge about Redsox cards. This is not intended for bashing teams, players, cities, etc. I know there is alot of knowledge out there, so can we please get back on track.
Not so sure it's a Red Sox thing as much as it may be a Yaz thing. 38 sets in the Yaz basic registry, with #17 seeming to be serious about making up some ground. The registry makes people do some crazy things sometimes. Add in the Christmas season and end of year=forecasted bonuses and bidding wars begin...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
It has been my experience in all my years that following a championship, even mediocre cards from that team command a price in many multiples of the pre-title prices. In all sports.
Specifically, Yaz tossing the game ball at Fenway with the others from that Impossible Dream team of '67 will cause the same effect. In fact, evertything Fenway related has gone up these past couple of months. Things will stabilize before next Spring.

It looks like my timing was off on starting my Yaz registry set. Although I have to admit watching the World Series probally had something to do with me wanting to start this set.

If your PM was on I would have used it.

Not sure where you are coming from here Steve. You have been on this board for less than a year yourself, which is newbie status as well. Calling someone a troll because they disagree with you and are recent members of a board is a newbie move from the Usenet days (I have been around that long, cutting my teath on Usenet and the Original Compuserve BB).
Newsflash... People can disagree with you from time to time and it is not trolling. TROLL BE GONE!

errrr--yes that would be me. I finally decided to start a Yaz Master Set as he has always been my favorite player...had nothing to do with the Sox winning this year. Long time suffering(no longer) Sox Fan here....not a band wagon jumper
Since I have no patience at collecting, I tend to focus on what I am going after this particular week--and the Yaz set is where I am at. Eventually looking to get to the top 3--which may be very tuff!
Soooo many Yaz cards---sooooo little time...............

Thats just my two cents.
