Lincoln cents --master die doubling--someone who knows

In John Wexlers 1984 black covered book titled "The Lincoln Cent Doubled Die" on page 118...

It lists a 1962 Proof cent as "MD-4-O-II" indicating that its a doubled master die.

Coneca does not list a doubled die proof or otherwise for 1962 .....so is it ....or isn't it?

  • Wexler is not CONECA. I'm looking at it, Mike, and the poor image makes it look like md on the 2 at least. Remember, Wexler openly states that he attributes anything new, while Wiles culls those he considers "too minor". And although I've had tons of submitted varieties rejected by the latter for being too minor, it stings for a moment but then I see his point in the long run.

I saw this one earlier on eBay, what a coincidence........

Does it look anything like this?

  • I think that's the real deal, ddo-1, an excellent and underappreciated doubled die. Business strike, yes?
