Home PSA Set Registry Forum

The 1967 Topps registry is as confusing as ever!

Sky's set has a weighted GPA of 8.45 with 100% completion and has a rating of 8.41. Jim Merrills set has an 8.04 GPA (also at 100%) with an 8.09 set rating. The never to be finished set has a higher completion % and a higher weighted GPA than cdsingles set...but ranks almost one full point (.78) lower than cdsingles.

Is CU using the BCS formula or what???

Also, is it just me...or should there be a seperate forum for the 1972 elitists to post their stuff? I have tried...but they won't let me in their club.

Regards,

Alan

    Alan,

Its actually somewhat embarrasing... It does seem like us 72 guys are hogging up the board lately. Probably something to do with pathetic little lives....image

If I could afford 67's I'm sure I'd be off driving my Lexus or something.image

But, for the sake of cutting back on future abuse, I for one will restrain my enthusiasm and try to give other folks a chance.

    Tongue in cheek,

  • I think I have an idea for the '72 secret hand shake. It has to do with 10 fingers minus one for those who are not part of the pursuit. 7+2 = nine, so you only have to figure out which finger is not part of the equation and how the hand shake is applied.

    Whadya think Frank?

Did you get the check yet? If not, probably Monday.

Alan.. I can't understand the set rating either. Every time I check, at least mine changes. It was 7.96 just 2 days ago!! I'm not sure how it jumped so much!! I upgraded 3 cards but it shouldn't have changed that much. BJ once gave me the formula for figuring the set rating, but I've never been able to make sense of it.

Does the GPA and ratings for the 1967 set have anything to do with this...

    FROM BJ...

A note about set ratings. On those sets where there are weighted varieites, it is possible to have a 100% completed set with a Weighted GPA of say, 7.80 and a Set Rating of 7.75. This is due to the fact that the set rating is based on the best possible weights. In other words, if a card has two varieties, one weighted 1 and the other weighted 3, the 3 is used in the calculation of the set ratings. If your set contains the lower weighted variety, you will see a disparity in your GPA and the Set Rating. However, sets that have no varieites or weights should have equal GPAs and Set Ratings if the sets are 100% complete. Based on this information, please report any problems you may see.

    Dearest Sky,

As I recall when I met you at the 2000 National, didn't you have a Lexus keychain? Thus may I conclude that you drive a Lexus? My next question is this: how do you find the time to put together the world's best '67 set and drive a Lexus? We must know!

    All,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a complete set with all 8's or 9's has more stars in 9 than commons , the GPA should be higher than the rating. If a set has a lot of 9 commons and all the stars in 8, the GPA will be lower than the rating.

Dude -- That is true at less than 100%. At 100% completion, composition of stars and commons is irrelevant as GPA will equal set weight. However, if you are saying that more stars in higher grades equals a higher weight than the same story in commons, then you are correct.
  • To Thy Dudiest One of All Time,

The funny and ironic part of all this is that I was driving a Lexus when I met you at the Nationals in Anaheim! It was a LX470 SUV.

    Vargha,

I meant the one in which you say is correct.
