Bad experience with ebay seller!

A little background:

I live in an apartment and I live in the city. I've had my mail stolen before (only once it was sports cards). Whenever I buy something on eBay, I ALWAYS ask DAYS IN ADVANCE if the seller will let me pay the additional $2.10 for signature confirmation (so that if I'm not home, the package isnt left there)...

So I've e-mailed this seller (dd9191) THREE TIMES (once on say one of the listing, once on day three of the listing and once last night) and they still have not got back to me. No response at all.

They've for five 1949 Bowman cards ending in 20 minutes that I need and I wont even bid because of this! How do I know they'll let me add it after the fact? I dont know... so I have to let these go....

It's very frustrating! Whenever I sell on eBay, I respond within an hour or two usually.

Come on people! Answer your damn messages!!!!!!!!!

K, I'm done.

Every man must die, but not every man truly lives.
  • Alan,

I live in an apartment complex myself and have always feared the same thing, but have never actually had it happen. I suggest that you get to know your mailman on a first name basis and ask him to leave any packages (big or small) in the management office. My mailman does that for me and I have never had a problem. I know him by his first name (Mark) and I get him a little something every year for Christmas as a token of my appreciation. That is my suggestion and I hope it works for you.

Or you might even try getting a P.O. box and having any sportscards sent there. It will cost you probably (and I am guessing at this) $15.00 a month, but then again, you would also be saving money by not having to pay for signature confirmation.

Get a small PO box if they this is going to upset you.
Doesn't have to be at the post office. Mailbox etc, box rentals from UPS,
or any other small mailing posts.

I only buy cards once a month or so.. will the rental fees be worth it? Know what I mean? I still want my regular mail at my apartment.

If some of these sold for just $5, why not roll the dice and just bid and take your chance on delivery, or have them sent to you at work. I realize the auctions ended but for such a small amount, why sweat it?

Some sellers list stuff, then might not be online for days while the items are selling.

Also a small PO BOX costs about $50 a year. This would solve your problem with non communicating sellers.

  • If you're concerned, I would do as others have mentioned and either get a P.O. Box or maybe change the delivery address to a work address. Unfortunately something may have happened to the seller that prevented him from being able to answer the messages as they came in.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Well, thanks for all the replies guys. I guess I have a monority opinion, which is that an eBay seller should answer his friggin e-mail or he loses customers.

The PO Box is a band-aid.... the root cause of this is the sellers inability to effectively communicate with their customer.

I probably should've worded my initial response better. When I asked if you were concerned, I meant more of the big picture of having problems with mail, even though only one sports related item has been stolen. If I had any concerns over my mail, I would do whatever necessary to protect it, regardless of the contents.

Going back to the seller, it's really his or her right to respond to the comments. Yes it stinks for you as a would be buyer, but ultimately it's their item and they can take a hit if they so choose. I simply made a point that something very well may have prevented the seller from responding to you. Last fall I had a situation where I had a relative die and was asked to do the funeral. My first matter of importance was getting on the road to be with my family. Yes I missed out on some business the days while I was away, but my family is more important.

I would actually say the root cause is living near some mail thieving morons, the secondary cause is the ebay seller
