PSA/DNA Auth vs. Auto with grade
![Teknobailey](https://forums.collectors.com/applications/dashboard/design/images/banned.png)
Hey guys,
You all know by now I'm new to collecting, so pardon my ignorance, but I need help with this:
How are some autograpghed cards graded "PSA/DNA Authentic" and some Autographed cards are graded on a 1-10 scale like normal cards? Examples:
1949 Bowman with auto graded PSA 5
1949 Bowman card with auto graded PSA/DNA authentic
How does this happen? Can you send in an auto card and ask for only authentication as well as send a card in and ask for a card grade AND authentication?
THanks all!

Specifically, you send the auto in for authentication. They slab it. Then you send the slabbed card in for grading. They reslab it. I don't know if they'll do it all in one swipe.
<< <i>The auto has been graded...then the card is separately graded. Both grades are labeled on one slab. I believe that's how it works.

Wrong!! On the card with PSA 5. The auto has been certified and the card was graded a 5. The authentic designation means that the card is authentic card. In both cases the auto's were certified with a separate auto cert number. This happens because the submitter has the option to have the card graded or only authenitcated. Authenitcated indicates that it is really a 1949 Leaf and not a reprint. It doesnt mean that the card hasnt been altered. The graded ensures that the card is both real and unaltered.
My understanding is that PSA doesnt grade autos on red certs, but may grade the autos on blue certs. That is the confusing thing.

This one throws a lot of people off base.
You can get the "AUTOGRAPHED CARD "GRADING AND AUTHENTICATION
Any autographed card with a declared value under $500. Autographed cards with a declared value over $500 must be submitted under higher service levels. Declared value rules apply. With Grade or No Grade: Customer has the option to select with grade or no grade (no grade is assigned but card is authenticated and encapsulated)."
To me, the card graded (1-10) with an auto is more attractive.
I'm buying that PSA 5 with auto.
<< <i>i have 5 0r 6 50 bowmans i have to get switched over from blue flip to red flips with grade for my all autographed set or they do not go onto the registry under 50 bowman fb
I believe thats a reholder. $5
Thanks. lol
While I prefer the PSA cards with the grade, I wouldn't NOT buy a PSA/DNA Authentic card just because it didn't have a grade on it.
<< <i>The grade only applies to the grade of the card, not the autograph. PSA does not grade autographs, PSA/DNA does on the blue flip holders (it will say "Autograph Grade Only" on the flip".

Well you can send it back in under review and have it graded later. I have done that a few times. I dont understand why someone would pay the $20 for the PSA/DNA on a card and not have the card graded.

Me, personally, I go for GPA on the registry, so a PSA/DNA authentic would be a PSA1.... no good....
