An open apology.

I just wanted to inform the board members of a mistake I have made in trading on this forum.

I recently completed a trade with board member jim70mustang, in which I sent 26 red back 2007 UD Goudey cards in exchange for some 2007 A&G, consisting of 2 base, 3 regular minis, a Perez, and 2 flags.

Upon receiving my end of the trade, Jim informed me that 20 of the 26 cards I sent him were severely off centered. I feel terrible about this blunder. I have only been building the green set, using the red backs as filler until I can replace them; therefore, the cards I passed along to Jim were cards that I had already obtained the green variant of. It was not my intention to pass along duds, I sent Jim literally every spare Goudey I had. After going through my binder, I see that the red backs I've used as filler are also of largely 60/40, including some 70/30, centering.

I want to correct this error, the only way I know how is to return his end of the trade and make an open apology for sending sub-par product. I have also taken out the remaining 38 red backs that I have been using as filler and am passing them along to Jim as well. While they are of similar centering, they are all I have, as I have only opened 16 packs of Goudey.

I'm sorry if I've at all tarnished the credibility of this forum, it was not my intent to take anyone. I truly appreciate this forum, the many trades I've made, I only hope I can continue to have the privilege and that I can correct my mistake as best as possible.

Probably six or seven hundred UD Goudey cards have made their way across my desk over the last couple months and I have yet to see any that appeared "severely" off-center to me. I wouldn't mind seeing some examples of the offending cards that led to this. I'm just hoping that all this didn't come about because of 60/40 centering! Even if they were like 80/20, I doubt I'd say anything other than thank you. Obviously, I'm not privy to all the information here, but my guess is that you have little if anything to be apologizing for.

Well, I'm sure they aren't 50/50 because the ones in my binder aren't either. I'm so sick to my stomach about the whole thing that I've scrapped the set anyway. I'll send him my remaining red backs, and hopefully he can use them.

I didn't like the set much anyway, it's no A&G.

60/40 centering in dozens of cards is nothing to complain about. Those could still garner MINT even by PSA. Actually, 60/40 is excellent for a set. I can understand someone wanting a 50/50 centering if their demands were on just one or two cards, but for dozens of them, having them at 60/40 is great. That is MINT.

I don't know all the details of this case, but it does not sound like anyone wanted to do something wrong.

Well, they could be much worse than 60/40 overall, I'm sure some of them are. I have a handful of 70/30 cards I'm looking at from the exact same packs, so they might even be largely 70/30. I don't know. He just said 20 of the 26 were junk and off centered. I'm going by cards from the same packs (2 blaster boxes) when I give the centering assessment.

let me know what 20 they are. If I have them, he can have them.
I was only working on the green set too so all my reds are stashed away. Not sorted but I can search out 20 of them I'm sure

I agree, I have also handled 2K Goudey cards in the last month and none of mine were like that either (not calling Jim a liar). If he wanted PSA 10s, theres a site called eBay (however, I've never seen any graded Goudey cards). Here we are set builders, I know I don't mind if cards aren't perfect for my sets. Oh well, to each his own....image

Zep, I don't even know what 20 they were. I appreciate the offer though.

Jeremy, I also appreciate that offer, but the same thing. He hasn't replied to my messages yet.

    edited to say:

I misread your reply. I do appreciate it, but at this point, I want to wash my hands of the set. I may purchase it off of eBay later, but I'm not having fun with it now.

To borrow a line from Peter Griffin... This really grinds my gears. Don't let this experience bother you or dissuade you from future trades with other board members. Most, as you're likely aware, are incredibly easy and fun to work with and aren't gonna bust your balls over centering... I suppose it goes without saying that that's especially true for cards that run about 10 cents each, but I'll mention it anyway.

    Very classy Ross.

With very few exceptions, blunders that are corrected will be long forgotten in a day.

I've never had a bad trade here.

Mistakes happen. Any of us that have traded with you before know you're a stand-up guy.

I agree, Ross has been one of the best newbie traders this year. I think it is also common courtsey to let the other person
know if you are a condition freak. I have been collecting modern sets for almost 8 years now and can tell you that topps
STILL has not mastered the even cut.

I have also seen runs of miscut cards. Quite frankly I tend to avoid the guys who want all mint sets. Its hard enough
finding guys a stack of cards, not to mention pulling multiple issues and sending them the best one. Of course is
something really off, Ill take the time to look, but expecting 50/50 all the way around in a big trade isn't really fair. I
would like to know if the person I'm trading with has that motive......and I don't mind at all ungrading a set, but it
takes time and effort to comb through multiple cards, checking centering and surface.

I don't think Ross has anything to worry about, he is backed here. I guess the condition freaks need to make their intentions
known before the trades...that will eliminate confusion.

It's been great trading with everyone here, less than 3 months until 08 heritage!!!

I appreciate the comments guys. I feel a lot better and know I'll do what I need to do to correct the problem.

From here on out, I'm going to scan any cards that I offer in a trade. I'm too low budget to have multiple copies of 50/50 centered cards, much less single copies in 50/50, I trade what I have. The scans will help end any future issues.

    Thanks again to everyone.

Not sure if this was addressed but did the person you trade with send 50/50 examples? I too agree that having 50/50 examples throughout is a tuff cookie.

I think you need to relax. You might have made a small mistake, you said you would trade back, you apologized, now move ON. DONE. Hope it all works out.

BunchOBull, Considering the way you offered to rectify the problem, shows you are sorry for the mistake. You have also shown that you are mature enough to admit you were wrong by making a public apology. However, after just seeing jimmustangs sig line, it appears that he has some growing up to do.
Dont lose any sleep over it, you went above and beyond to fix it.

Ross, I've never traded with you, but we have traded PM's a couple times. I can tell you're a straight-up guy.

And I agree with Joe Stalin -- if you are a "condition freak," it would be helpful to warn others...
