Celebrating my 300th post :-) I got my email from Mastronet with my description of my card

Hi everybody, I am celebrating my 300th post on this great PSA board LOL. I have been a member since Auguts 14th 2007(about 3 months) and i'm already hoocked on these boards, there are a lot of great people here
I recently received an email from Mastronet with the results of my SGC grade of my 1950 George Mikan Menko and it came back a poor 1
I came here about that card asking around and I wasen't able to get much info but I was asking which auction house to list it under and some people recommended Mastronet so I deceided to go with them. Anyway, I will attach the email I got from Mastronet:
Graded 10 PR 1 by SGC. The Golden Age of Japanese baseball cards began
after World War II, in 1948, when colorful and ornate Menko cards were
produced to honor individual players. "Menko" collectibles are a genre
of pieces that were used primarily as components of childrens' games;
virtually all of Japan's great ballplayers of the era were represented
on various thick-cardboard Menko's, and a few, particularly worthy
international stars-such as Babe Ruth and Lefty O'Doul-also appeared in
several issues. Presented is a true rarity among the type: this is a
1-7/8"-diameter Japanese Menko disc that carries the likeness of American
basketball legend George Mikan. Possibly unique in nature, this
captivating item's importance to the hobby's basketball specialty cannot be
overstated. Mikan's portrait is immediately recognizable on the disc's
obverse, and the image shares that surface with just a few standard Menko
characters placed on the upper edge. A red border encircles most of the
front, and the unprinted reverse shows residual adhesive and markings
consistent with one-time retail display. Horizontal creases and a tiny
pinhole at the center do not impede the illustration's clarity or impact.
Technically Poor with a forward aesthetic that nonetheless projects
favorably. A visually striking, incomparably intriguing relic, this is a
once-in-a-lifetime potential acquisition for the serious
basketball-collecting enthusiast!
So, what do you guys think? Any estimates on what you think it could bring? I can't wait till December to find out, its gona be in the December premier auction so hope it does really well. I hope people are not to busy buying Christmas presents, thats for sure LOL.
Ok guys, wanted to thank everybody for making these boards such a plesant place to come chat with other collectors, and hopefuly I can get to 1,000 posts some time soon
By the way Jim, the chatzy is not working so I guess you can email or if your not to busy you can also come here on the PSA boards LOL

Above it a picture of the actual card. I don't have a scan of it in the SGC holder yet, the catalog is going to come out soon.

in cards as far as i know anything with a pin hole gets a 1, so maybe that is why they automatically gave it a POOR grade.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. So I guess that a good thing because people would see the condition for themselves besides that pinhole, I was wondering why it came back that low, I was expecting something like a 4 or 5 or something, not a 1! Thanks for letting me know
<< <i>You went with the right auction company if you want a crease or corner pressed out. >>
What do you mean?
<< <i>Doug Allen of Mastro's has admitted in public forums that it is the company's policy to pushing out creases and corners in order to get better grades. You can search the forums for old threads. I wonder why Mastro's didn't get it slab by PSA? Maybe they tried? >>
I actualy tried to send it to PSA but they said that they didn't have any info of this card, that they have never seen it or heard of it, so when i sent it to Mastro, I sent it with the plastic case that PSA sent it back to me that said no-grade. So I guess Mastro figured not to send it to PSA since they just sent it back to me without a grade so they sent it to SGC, because they have more experience with "Menko" cards. PSA shouldn't pass a card up simply because they never seen that card before or don't know anything about it. They gotta start somewhere right? Why not my card? LOL. I guess it Mastro would have sent it the first time to PSA, they probably would have graded it but since I was the one , they didn't grade it so Mastro didn't wana waste anytime I guess sending it to them again? So is that the case then? When theres a pinhole they give it an automatic 1 grade?

Congrats on your 300th post!
I've never seen that card before. To my knowledge, the only time Menko has been mentioned here was by Roastedcat - who referenced the Ruth which is rectangular. I believe he had uncut sheets?
I can't see why PSA couldn't ID the card - here's a web I have bookmarked on Janpanese issues.
Good luck on the auction - have no idea what it's worth - but I wish you all the best!
mike
edit: here's a 1950 uncut sheet with the Ruth (lower right corner) that went for 180 bucks with Huggins and Scott auctions.
