1879 3C Proof - Unkown Spot on Obverse
Anyone ever see anything like this. This spot looks organic and has developed since the coin was slabbed. (Yes its on the coin itself). Can I submit it for reholdering and cleaning. I haven't heard that PCGS will clean anything like this prior to slabbing. Any thoughts?

I've heard that PVC can be removed with acetone. Would PCGS do this, or would they offer compensation instead?

Yes sir. That is what it is. And more than likely it is a remnant from an auction flip. I still cannot believe that in this day and age that auction companies put coins in poison flips, even if only "temporarily", as they claim. This type of problem can be avoided, yet in the meantime coins are being damaged. On a somewhat bright side, this can be remedied with some success, if done quickly.
