Don Shula is crying already about the Pats going 16-0!

I was just listening to sports talk radio and they were quoting Don Shula and his response to his feelings about the Pats going unbeaten this season and Shula says if they go undefeated it should have an * next to the record because the pats got caught cheating this year...LMAO

He is comparing the Patriots to Barry Bonds....I wonder what kind of cheese he wants with his whine!

I don't care if the Pats finish the season undefeated, since a Superbowl victory is the real prize...BUT to shut Shula up, that would be icing on the cake.

Is it just me, or does it seem like EVERY time a record is threatened to be broken, someone somewhere makes up some excuse about how the record breaker doesn't deserve it. image Even when Ripken was apporaching the big 2131, there were some who actually had the gaul to suggest that he stop at 2130 and "share" the record with Gehrig. image Go figure.

As much as I hate the Patriots no team in history is as annoying as the 72 Dolphins. A bunch of bitter old men.

  • There wouldn't be a better scenerio - a team goes 16-0 while the dolphins go 0-16 in the same season. I think those two teams meet in the 2nd to last week of the season.
  • I hate the Pats, but Shula needs to put a sock in it. Poor babies might not get to open the bottle of champagne this year.

I really hope the Pats do make it 16-0 now just to stick it to Shula.

Its to bad Shula has to run his mouth and whine about this! He is a HOF coach with an undefeated season under his belt, that should be good enough for him and not worry about this years Patriots team which has above and beyond the talent than any team he ever coached.

Hmmm, I wonder who has more credibility with grown ups , Shula or Belichick?
  • its to bad Shula has to run his mouth and whine about this! He is a HOF coach with an undefeated season under his belt, that should be good enough for him and not worry about this years Patriots team which has above and beyond the talent than any team he ever coached.

I know the pats are good maybe the best in recent years but to say that they have "above and beyond talent" than Shula had?

Are you crazy, blind or just thinking with your heart? Have you ever heard of Greise, Warfield, Csonka, Morris, Kiick, Larry Little - heck that's just the offense

Being in Atlanta I have no perception of winning history BUT I always wonder how a team that went undefeated and then followed it with another SB win is not recogonized as the best or one of the top 3. I always hear the 85 bears, the 70s steelers, 90s 49ers etc

As far as Shula's comments - he merely said outloud what Dungy and a host of others are saying behind closed doors - don't blame him because your team got caught cheating. Blame your coach and accept it - hell didnt your coach accept the fine and loss of draft picks? There has to be a reason for that penalty ... nah it's just Shula's bitterness

  • Don Shula should stick to hawking that weight loss program in TV commercials and not whine about the Pats.

No one is denying what Belichick did (which is still done unchallenged by every team so long as their camera is NOT on the sideline), but a comparison to Barry Bonds is absolutely ridiculous. Questioning previous SB wins may be a valid argument, but to even suggest an asterisk on this season (and moving forward) just smacks of jealousy and is a lame attempt to prop up his '72 Dolphins. Even Dungy didn't suggest something as ludicrous as that.

Under the tremendous microscope that the Pats have been subjected since the 1st quarter of the 1st game of the season, what have you seen since then (now into week 9) that even suggests that the Pats are not earning their wins fairly? At what point do the Pats get any credit at all for what they've accomplished? If it's just a punitive attitude in the sense that the Pats are just hated and no matter what they do, they'll never be forgiven, then he should be man enough to admit that. Don't try justify the moronic point by using such a lame apples and oranges argument.

you know i hate the pats and belicheat, but i also hate people that don't want their records broken. what good is it to set a record if it can't be broken? how can someone be crying about this? if they go underfeated it would be great for the NFL and the sport, who doesn't want that? it always disgusts me when the dolphins get together and toast someone else losing to perserve their record. now i have to privately root for the pats to go undefeated to shut the fins and shula up, i hate them both, but since being a jets fan and having nothing else at all to root for, except the number 1 pick, i'll root for the pats to get tied and we'll let the conversation begin.

The original post mischaracterizes what was actually said. Personally I could care less about the whole mess and am only posting this in an attempt to clarify what was said. Three weeks espn radio was pumping Shula what he thought about the scandal and his reply was basically what he has been saying the past few days, that the league thought it was important enough that they fined the team, the coach and took away a draft choice. When he kept getting pushed about an asterisk he said that could be done and wouldn't bother him. This is the gist of what he said and it can hardly be called whining.

I understand that exaggerating on here and not reading what was actually said and relying on someone's post as the truth happens here but for crying out loud this is just another mountain out of a mole hill. image

As a Bear's fan I loved to see any team go undefeated so I have no love lost for Shula or the dolphins. I saw them play and they were a fun team to watch but no greater than the 78 Steelers.

with several weeks left in the season it's way too early to start thinking about a perfect season.
  • I agree. Remember when the 4-12 Dolphins beat the eventual Super Bowl champion Patriots in 2004???

Well, this is where the all the players, coaches, and fans agree. It won't stop the press from dredging it up though.

Yes I have heard of these guys and yes I think this years Pats have more talent.

You also have to remember that Griese was hurt most of the season. It would be like Brady breaking his leg next week and their
suckend string coming in and beating guys like Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Jurgenson and Kilmer! The Patsies looked very impressive
against the colts, who were short handed, but they have not played the best teams in the league...not even close.

You just can't compare these teams....plus Shula didn't need survalence to beat other teams either!

  • Here we go again.......
1st of all the 72 dolphins played 2 teams with a winning record, and the best team they played finished i think with an 8-6 record.
2nd , as i've said before, all teams videotape the other teams coaches. Usually its done from the coaches box.
The Pats violated the nfl rules of where the camera was, not that they were taping. Do a little research kevin before you
    run your moth next time.
3rd, yes the colts were missing harrison. Lets recall the AFC title game last year. Pats were without our harrison, and 3 out of
4 starting db's. Plus we had reche "deer in the headlights" caldwell at WR. Didnt see the Pats make excuses. They took the loss
    like the pros they are.

whoa...who are you calling last years.....Patriots Harrison???? I don't think so!

    JS
  • There is one thing that would have ended this whole 'sideline videotaping' once and for all- allow the defense to radio plays in, like the offense. That's only fair, and would keep the defense from having to rely on the 100 year old practice of using sideline signals, while the offense uses 21st century wireless communication to accomplish the same goal.

As for Schula's words, I'm completely suprised by a coach of that caliber. I've been a Fins fan for years, and the fact that he would even suggest such a thing startles me. It seems no one in sports today is comfortable with records being broken. The only reason we even keep up with these records is to find out in future who did better.

As far as the Pats cheating by videotaping from the sidelines, I'd say let them go back to that. They were only winning by a touchdown until then. Since they made them stop videotaping, they have been killing teams.image

Are you saying that if Brady goes down and misses the remainder of the season that the Pats will:

A - make the playoffs and Superbowl
B - still win every game

And Perkdog - you think that the pats will have more than 7 HOF players on this team?

I agree they are the the best team in this era but come on - you can't really compare the two teams yet?

  • If Brady goes down, the Pats win maybe 60% of the games.
As the Pats showed in 3 super bowl wins, It's not the "stars"
but the team that gets you there and wins. This year is different.
We finally see what Brady can do with a decent reciever corp.
As far as going 16-0, Pittsburgh is very tough, and the giants on
the last week. It would be nice, but if they losr a game, im not
losing any sleep over it, it's the game in Feb. that counts!

  • I live in S Fla. and I am sick of hearing about the 72 Dolphins!!! Not just this year, but every single year!! And when the last undefeated team falls, all these
moronic sport writers and radio talk show hosts are just so thrilled that there will not be another undefeated season. The only thing better than the Sox running
4 in a row against the Yanks in '04 would be for the Pats to go undefeated, and the sad, pitiful Dolphins to not win a single game. Now that would be a perfect
    season!

No I would NOT think they would continue being this succsesfull if Brady went down. I have not seen Cassell play enough to say he could operate well in Bellichek's system and I would guess NO.

7 HOF'ers? too early to tell but IMO this team would handle the '72 team, ofcourse their are a ton of reasons other than talent IE: better althetes w/better health care, training ect.. unfair to compare the two, I never should have brought it up.
  • This doesn't have anything to do with the PATS or the DOLPHINS, but,

This chat made me think about................

Is ANYONE else besides me really get EXTREMELY tired of the celebrations
after EVERY SINGLE tackle, sack, etc etc.

I mean, come on............do you have to celebrate every frickin' play?!

I just hate it....I wish they would make a rule.........ABSOLUTELY NO CELEBRATING,
    even after a touchdown!
  • perkdog,

That's all I wanted to point put - a) too early to make that comparsion. and b) Shula had to coach with an old backup for over half the season - that's impressive in my book.

Again being a Falcons fan I have no perspective on historical greatness, if you wish to talk about historical failures I'm your guy.

They film FORMATIONS, they do not film other teams coaches. The Patriots filmed coaches from the sidelines, that is cheating. How do you steal a coaches's signal from this feed?

  • I will repeat what many have said in that I am so sick and tired of the champagne-popping thing for those 72 Phins.

Jeez, Imagine Dimaggio toasting himself every time someone's streak stopped short of his.

To make it a Rome-ism---- Even Jack Nicklaus thinks the 72 Dolphins are over the top- living in the past!

Yeah, the second easiest schedule in the history of modern football (If I'm not mistaken) makes it such a feat!

And injuries mean nothing, except to fuel the hypothetical. What if? What if?
    OK, there's my 1 cent

    Go Pats!!!
  • according to Shula it's not true - well sort of not true ... well maybe the story/legend needs an *
