Who has score 10's from raw ebay buys?

Just wondering how hard it is to buy a card raw off ebay and then sub it and get a 10... I figured with the psa special's running I would give it a try on a few 80's rookie cards.

But again, if you are going to do this, I would shoot for 9's, not 10's. 10's bring good money because there are relatively few out there compared to all the 8's and 9's.

I could go on and on...especially with the modern, more rare, serial #'d parallel issues. You have to remember, this is hit or miss. Take a good look at the card and always ask for clear scan if one is not available. This also does not take into account all of the "doubles" I have accumulated, as well as all of the cards that did not come back as 9's or 10's. Knock on wood, I have been pretty lucky (and/or patient). If I was guessing, I would say that 80-85% of my cards come back as 9's or 10's, with probably 20-30% of those being 10's.
I recently purchased a card that is nearly impossible to find in PSA 6 or better quality due to the black borders front and back and the propensity for these cards to chip. It was one of the cleanest I had ever seen on eBay (1998 Leaf Statistical Standouts Die-Cut, serial #'d to 250). When the card showed up, it was nicer than it looked on eBay...it has been submitted with the November special.
I try to look at a card for what it is, not necessarily for the fact that I need it for my collection...prepare for accumulation of cards that don't quite make the grade, or for cards that you end up with due to buying lots in bulk.
Older issues, all I can say is good luck!!

<< <i>you are right 10 would be the best... I was more wondering who has done it and with what card... I think 9's would be a more realistic goal, I figure with the $5 sub fee it's worth chance if the card looks good. >>
I was doing it a few years ago with '89 UD Griffey and '87 Fleer Bonds. These cards are higher quality to begin with compared to earlier 80's stuff. I was very selective with my ebay selection. I tried to only buy cards that had great scans. I would send back cards that did not meet the auction description. I had good success getting 9's, but never got any 10's. For the most part, I bought singles or small lots, I never tried buying sets or set cases and cracking for individual submission. I did the same thing with 1964 Topps Giants Mantle cards. I consistently received 7's and 8's.
For highest profit potential, you want to go for low pop cards that are in demand due to the set registry. Obscure and rarely graded cards are good also.

Ultimately though, it really depends on the seller and their shipping. If the seller does not take care of their cards and does a lousy job protecting the cards during shipping, a 10 in their hands may end up a 5 in yours.
I also agree that you should set your expectations for a 8 or 9.
