Has anyone ever had any problems with shipping/handling with PSA?

I have pretty much everything that's high-end in my collection in the safety deposit box in screw down holders (most of which I acquired in the late 80's to early 90's). I want to ship all of this to PSA to get graded, but 1) I don't know how much to insure everything for, 2) I'm REALLY nervous about putting all of my high-end stuff in a box and mailing it, hoping it will get there, and 3) I don't know how much it would cost to insure something like this.

Have you guys ever had a package lost? It just looks like someone could see the PSA address on the box and look at the markings, and it's a big theoretical "target" to steal. Ya know?

Wouldn't it be better to just wait until they're at a show and drop them off yourself?

Lastly, I've heard several people say they scanned their cards before they were sent, and they received them back slabbed but DINGED by PSA staff. What's the recourse in a situation like this?

I'm probably being paranoid, but I'd be interested on hearing your thoughts.

I have had over a thousand cards graded, 20 or more packages to and from PSA, never had a problem. Always insure your packages for what they are worth or what it would cost you to replace them. That way....less worries.
  • Send it USPS registered and insured for what you feel the true value is.

Wait for a show in your area that PSA is attending, and drop them off in person. This also saves you the "getting to PSA" shipping cost.

Plus, I believe Registered Mail can only be insured up to $25K.

pack your items well and use registered mail with insurance. you should be fine. if it's over the 25k limit for insurance just divide them up into different shipments.

  • I had a little trouble with a return shipment due to the postal carrier leaving it at the wrong post office. I called the post office and my package was tracked down and in my hands within 3 hours. Registered mail is the ONLY way to send your stuff. It's very slow because everyone in the mail service who touches the package has to sign for it. That way if it gets lost, they know who lost it.

Registered mail is the Fort Knox of the shipping business. You can't go wrong if you ship that way. For stuff under $500, I ship priority mail with insurance.
