Shop-At-Home TV - 1993 Topps Finest Refractors

Did anyone else see this deal over the weekend? I admit I enjoy watching the collectors show late night on Saturdays to see the type of stuff they try to sell.

They somehow came across a lot of 93 Topps Finest refractors, and they were selling them in boxes called "Platinum Bonus." It appeared that these were boxes that the show host, Kevin Hite, had put together. Each box had six packs, and each pack was guaranteed to have one 93 Topps Finest card. Of the six packs in each box, one box was guaranteed to have a "star" 93 Finest card and not just a common.

The boxes were being sold for $180 +/-.
Each pack also had some miscellaneous cards, which seemed to include the 2006 National Baseball Card day cards (millions of them in print) and some random late 90s refractor cards (commons).

I wonder what kind of condition the cards were in.

I saw this...I found myself wanting to pull the trigger on the 5-box Bonus Buy, especially after seeing that $300 Mattingly refractor pulled. But, alas, I refrained...image
  • Each pack had a 93 finest refractor or 93 finest? 1 refractor per6 pack box?
  • I was bombed sideways, but if I recall, each pack had a Finest refractor, as well as 3-4 other non-Topps refractors, plus some garbage cards.

Basically, $180 for a box containing 6 Finest refractors (1 guaranteed to be a "star") and some filler. You know shop at home... check eBay to find out the prices on the five cheapest refractors from the set, and the cheapest "star," and that's what you can expect for your 180.
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

Even after the infamous Don West era SAH is mostly a joke. BTW, don't every buy factory sets from them if you intend to leave them sealed, because what they do is the put a GIANT tacky orange sticker on it saying "no refund if seal broken" on all of them. image

what are the odds the 93 Refractor market could be crashed by a warehouse find by SAH? I mean Fleer killed a bunch of stuff with the flood of product. Think the numers could skyrocket here?

I find it amazing that whenever numbnuts on SAH opens a "Random" pack of his self packaged garbage, he manages to always pull decent cards. I am pretty sure that their star cards are going to be limited to the very fringe of any star at all.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Don't worry Allen...they were limited to only 100 boxes!! That makes just 600 total '93 refractors...I would kill to sell all of my 1993 refractors for an average of $30/each...actually, I only have one, and I am going to keep it...image
  • Shop at Home is cool.

    But I ain't worried.

  • Quite honestly, the show is fun to watch. I would never buy any of the stuff they sell at the prices they sell it at, but it's a fun thing to watch late at night. Sometimes I DVR it and watch it the next day as background noise as I'm doing bills or paperwork.

These guys most own warehouses full of Topps and Fleer 88-91 though.
