Totally, completely OT - computer question

My son loaded IE-7 onto my computer today. I am not please with him doing this. Does anyone know how to get the Outlook Express icon onto a tool bar? I use Outlook Express to check my email and used to just click on the symbol on a tool bar to get my emails but now the symbol isn't there with IE-7. Thanks.

Don, was the Outlook Express icon on a toolbar inside your old IE? Or do you mean the toolbar at the bottom of the screen?
  • Where's the E-mail button?
To add the e-mail button to your toolbar, go to the Tools drop down arrow on the Menu bar. Click Toolbars > Customize > Read Mail > Add.

I wasn't real thrilled with IE7 when I first installed it but now I love it because of all the tabs I can have open at the same time without having a seperate window open... Now I can't stand when having to use a different computer without IE7

Edited to add: The tools dropdown button is on the right side... not the button with the file edit view etc...

Roman, on the top. There was a little 'envelope' up on the tool bar. I just click on that.

Mozilla Firefox has had that feature for years. image

Why are you still using IE? Mozilla is a much better system!

I'm used to IE that's why. I do use Firefox sometimes.

I was going to suggest getting off of IE in favor of firefox, but I see several other people already have. It's worth it, though.

Try Opera instead of Firefox. Very user-friendly with many more advanced features built in than Firefox.

I never really understood the cult status Firefox has developed. It truly is a piece of junk. Sure, you can add on stuff. But most of it is utterly useless. Opera has real functionality without having to figure out annoying add-ons.

I'm thinking about moving off of Firefox. I get errors all the time that shuts down the windows and sends error msgs. Gets real annoyingimage

    Try Opera image

I've never had a bug crash the browser, never got any malware. Opera has a feature that blocks pop ups in a much less annoying way than Firefox or IE.

If you do download it, spend a few minutes playing around with it--you don't have to, mind you, but you will find features that can really come in handy. It really is nice. Just like people thought tabbed surfing was weird at first but now is indispensable, mouse gestures are great! A flick of the wrist and you can go forward or back or close a tab and so on. Makes for really fast browsing.

Also, jut like every other browser nowadays, Opera has a ton of skins (to change the look and feel). If you do try Opera, try out the skin Freestyle.. very clean and modern look.

The only drawback is that on one out of 300 or so pages, it might render differently if the webmaster doesn't know what he's doing. I do web design and haven't had any problems with it.

The ONLY reason I don't just jump over there is my very long Bookmark list. You can't just grab a folder like you can with IE and move them.

Actually, I think you can... I know there is a function to import bookmarks from IE, I'm fairly certain there is one to import ones from Firefox too. I'll check into it...

Edit: Yes indeed there is! File > Import and export > Import Netscape/Firefox bookmarks image

Edit 2: Catch is, there doesn't seem to be an import wizard, meaning you have to first export them from Firefox (go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks, then File > Export and save them wherever you like) and then import them into Opera.

Hmmm, I'll Bookmark this for future use when I REALLY get fed up. Thanks.

Sorry I hijacked your post Donimage

Don, the solution to making any addy a link on your tool bar is to click and drag the icon at the left of any addy and pull it to the tool bar.

We tried this and it didn't work. Rick's instruction worked perfectly.

Interesting. I've been using Firefox for years and have never had crashing problems. Then again, I don't use a bazillion add-ons. I will say, though, that the various web developer plugins for Firefox are a boon to creating web pages and debugging CSS issues.
