How I wish they had made.......? How about you?

At least make a retro 1953 Al Kaline. They have made so many retros of the 1951-1954 ilk,
but, I have yet to see the Kaline. His actual first year with the Tigers.

Come on Topps, let's see it! I'll even buy the PROOFS when you are done with em! image

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

  • I know this is after his playing days, but, wouldn't you all have liked
a shiny black border 1971 Topps Mickey Mantle?

I've always thought the photo could be of him in the on-deck circle
kneeling down with lumber upon his shoulder.

One card I would love to have seen is a 1994 Topps Alex Rodriguez. I am pretty loyal to regular base Topps sets since there is so much tradition with them. It seems like there is a big hole to not have a ARod Topps rookie card.

I whole heartedly agree with the 1983 Topps Traded Mattingly and the numberous Topps Musial omissions.

    1957 Topps Stan Musial.

Incidentally, I wish that Topps would put out a whole set like this - a large set, maybe 200 cards or more. They could short print the stars and make them with the same cardboard as the original cards were made on. I'm not talking about their "E-Topps Cards That Never Were" crap. I'd like to see an honest to god larger effort like this that might interest vintage collectors. It would be far better than the crapola they run out there now.

A few months ago, I went through Total Baseball and made a list of the players whose first year in the majors predated their Topps rookie card. These are just some of the highlights:

    1952 Ralph Kiner
    1952-58 Stan Musial
    1952 Don Newcombe
    1952 Jim Piersall
    1952-53 Ted Williams
    1953 Ernie Banks
    1953 Al Kaline
    1954 Harmon Killebrew

    1961 Lou Brock
    1962 Willie Stargell
    1963-64 Joe Morgan
1963 Gaylord Perry (full-size) How did he go from his own card in 1962, to one of those 4-player disembodied head cards in 1963?
    1963 Pete Rose (full-size)
    1964 Tony Perez
    1966 Steve Carlton

1967 Sandy Koufax, with his career summary and stats on the back, analogous to the 1969 Mantle.

Next best option is for Topps to do a retro card on this one (they did a 1967 Nolan Ryan this year).
