I'm sure that if you were to ask, they would tell you why.
  • I could be wrong, but when I ordered about a month ago I think they mentioned something about moving to a different store.

that is not a smart move...

Wouldn't you need to know the reason why before concluding that?

I stopped into JJ Teaparty's shop one time. Moving the store wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I agree! I was in there a couple years ago... tucked down this one-way street, no sign, just the infamous "49 Bromfield" in front. I go inside, no coins anywhere, just a bunch of gold... like nuggets, chains, etc if I remember correctly.
  • I had the same experience seven years ago when I was in Boston. B&M they are not.

"that is not a smart move..."

Liz and company have not become as successful as they are by making "not-smart moves". I'm sure they know what they are doing.

Liz is one smart lady numismatist!!!

She just bought some of my Saints at a very fair price!!!
  • What exactly does that mean, anyway...J.J. Teaparty? I've always wondered about that.
  • I think it means "Buy a killer toned AU-58 1929 half dime at a reasonable price", because that's what I did today!

If they are moving the location of their store, then it would be reasonable to have items available for website/mail order only. I did not know they were contemplating a move and I think that is a different issue and could be explained as such.

As for my comment, let me be brief and to the point...

If I can not go into a coin store, see the coin I saw on a web site and inspect the coin in hand before buying it, then it I am in the wrong place... but thats just me... flame on.

Is it the physical act of going into a store that you want? Because if so, I guess I understand your point.

But most dealers (even those who don't have stores) are happy to ship you any coin so you can inspect it in hand before buying it.
  • MFHMFH Posts: 11,720 ✭✭✭✭

They have no plans on moving from their Bromfield Street address.

All mail order coins are automatically shipped and no longer available
    for pick up.

I've been dealing with them for many years and have only been to their shop
a couple of times. I always make an appointment prior and advise them of what
my purpose is - either to buy - or to sell. If its to buy, they know my collecting
interests and have a large selection of material for me to sort thru.

At first glance upon entering their store, you sense there isn't alot of material
available, except for bullion - which they do a tremendous business in - but,
all you have to do is ask.

Call Gail on her toll free line and she'll be more than happy to assist you.
So would Liz, but she's on the road a great deal of the time buying.

BTW, they have handled my Want List for Barbers for over a dozen years
and have found most of the coins I needed. Give them a try - you won't be disappointed.

  • No fears everyone, we are NOT moving from our Boston location. We have moved the mail order division to NH to an office closer to where Gail lives to help expedite orders and have better service. If we are notified ahead of time, we can have coins available for view in our store in Boston on an appointment basis. We are still doing all of our bullion business in town and purchasing coins in the store, etc, mostly just changing the location of the coins listed on the web from Boston to NH. If you have any questions, please call me at 1-800-877-1415. Thanks, Liz Coggan

...now, now Mike... cool your jets... just a little healthy kidding around going on here... image

...there are a number of folks here on the forum who often 'complain' of the lack of fresh material in dealer's cases...but hey...the coins have to be available for us to stock... and if we do but "no one comes" ... well... what can I say?...

...soooooo... a little wry humor aimed at endless "struggle" to find fresh material and the seemingly endless lament of the lack of such material... wish we could just call a warehouse...ya know?... image ... but that would take all the fun out of it... the excitement of the hunt and all that...

Awe, I was just pulling Liz's leg...and she knows it.

I have always had a great relationship with both she and Gail.

When Liz and Gail are at a show, they always have a NEPS box or two to go thru.
Its really great working with them, as I have been for the last 13 years or so.

Definitely one of the top notch coin dealers in my book. I visited the shop back in May 2000, yes it was hard to find and looked pretty small. Didn't look like they had too many coins in the shop, until I told them my name and that I've ordered from them off and on. After that, they were bringing out large cents and Walkers with almost all the dates I was wondering about. I spent a small chunk of change there that afternoon and will never forget it.
