I checked out for the first time the www.earlyus.com website. I was impressed by the quality of the coins for sale. I think he might be a member here. Does anyone have any experience with this site? I especially liked the articles on the site.

James Garcia is a member of the NGC forum. I think he may have been banned here. Not postive.

The website has recently gone through a complete make over. It was ok then, pretty darn nice now.

James Garcia, the owner, is one of my local homeboys. He was booted here over the flap about the Norweb Hibernia but is active ATS. James is a collector, first and foremost, ethical, honest, and a true numismatist. I have bought numerous coins from him (including my last two purchases) and have had him look at many coins for me as a friend. He is very discriminating and has a good eye. James gets my highest recommendation.

A VERY nice site indeed. Very easy to navigate and nice coins.

I've got my eye on one as I type.

That's a nice site. I've never seen a PCGS holder like this:

    PCGS Morgan

I've never seen a doily-rattler before and din't know they made 'em.

Just out of curiosity, how can you tell if it's a rare transitional slab, or a regular 'PCGS #3' 2-piece slab with the outer piece broken / removed?

A quick perusal of Conder101's 'Generations' post doesn't list this transitional slab.

Well it looks simular to the gen 2.5:

PCGS 2.5 This slab was discovered after the initial posting of this thread ad posted here by mgoodm3. It is he same as PCGS 2 in all ways except for the adition of the companies initials at the top center of the front label. Since then I have seen a few other specimens but it seems to be much scarcer than PCGS 2. My guess is that it was probably produced during the last week or so of Nov 1989.

Yes, it is similar, but it's not the same. The one on earlyUS's site looks like gen 3 with the outer framer removed.

I would agree with CCU. The problem is that doilies and rattlers are a couple generations apart from each other. We'll need to have input from Conder.

dunno about the doiley thing, but the website seems a little "thin" & has some bad links
