Opinions on this Jefferson Nickel EBay Error??

19Lyds19Lyds Posts: 26,492 ✭✭✭✭
Does this look real or do you suppose its been faked?

image

I am by no means an expert but I would think that the impression on the obverse would not be reversed as it is shown in the picture? It appears to be a hammer job.

Am I all wet on this?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

So Fred, did a nickel get smashed into a nickel at the mint on this or what? I'm still wrestling with the reversed Monticello.

Lee, this is a brockage. If you're interested in errors, you need to get a copy of Alan Herbert's Official Price Guide to Mint Errors and/or the Error Coin Encyclopedia published by Fred and Arnold Margolis.

There was almost the same exact 1999 w/ Brockage 5c on Ebay last week in a Anacs 66 holder.

Here is one with a brockage from a split planchet nickel, hope you could see it clearer.
