My Turn to spend at BBCE Please Help BB?FB

Good day,
After monitoring Prscott933 all day yesterday with his musings on his thread about what to buy to Rip form BBCE, I of course have gotten the fever and would like to a Rip for the Forum. Posting pictures from my scans will be a challenge, but we'll get to that later. I have been involved in several group rips but never just for me. So I will be calling Steve today to place an order which I have narrowed down, but would like some input. I want to spend about $250.00. I have pretty much settled on 4 packs of the 1972 OPC Baseball wax packs $35.00 each = $140.00. Nicks talk of all the HOF's has me convinced. Secondly I really like the Topps 1985 Football cards. So I am trying to figure out between buying a Wax Box for $135.00 or 8 each of the Rack packs for $16.00 each.
Any thoughts?
I am looking to pull gradeable cards for 9's and hopefully a few 10's, so any comments on that???
Thanks
Neil

good luck with 85 football, they are incredibly brutal on grading them. Some people here have commented on only getting a few cards out of an entire box that were submission worthy, and given the low cost they bring, I would suggest some 84 football racks if he has them in stock and buy your 85's already graded.
  • i like 1984 topps and 1986 topps football image

1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold Ozzie Smith
2006 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Chris Carpenter
  • Good day,
I agree the 85's are tough, but that's part of the fun in the challenge. I recently did a pack break and out of the pack I got a NM-MT 8 and 2 MINT 9's. So I know it can be done.

  • I, for one, can't wait to see those 72's. I want to get a few packs soon as well.

Looking forward to your rip! Good luck.

I would say the 1985 FB set is probably THE most radical set design Topps has ever done for their base brand in any sport. I wonder what gave them the idea to use it. I'm not saying it's good or bad really (I haven't really made up my mind as to best/worst FB set designs like I have for baseball) but it is very, very different.

All the more reason to go for a pack/box bust for that year. It'll look pretty interesting! image

I do like the design of the 85 Topps FB, but most of the photography is just sideline images and pictures of the side of the player's head. I know that topps used a lot of sideline images in their FB cards, but 85 seems to be a great percent than others.

So far that's been true for all the sets I have so far. I do like how they sort the cards by team though. I'm pretty sure though sometime around 1992 and 1993 or so they do away with not only that but they even take away those neat Super Bowl and AFC/NFC Championship game cards. image Bummer...
