Anyone ever hear of Nevada Day?

I was in Las Vegas last week and had some free time so I grabbed a phone book and started looking for the closest coin shop. Sahara Coins was the closest one so I jump in the rental car and head that way. I pull up in front of the building and I'm exicited about having all afternoon to browse the inventory. As I approach the door nothing seems out of the ordinary because of the dark tint on the windows, but then I see it. A little sign on the door that reads "Closed for Nevada Day". ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I put my hands up to the glass so I could look through the dark tint and sure enough, the cases were covered and no one inside. What are the odds that the one day I have time to visit a new shop they're closed. Good thing I didnt play the slots, with luck like that I would have been doomed.

And what is Nevada Day?

google is your friend, as well as the phone. Our B&M shop owner sometimes closes on Saturdays to go to college football games.

    Nevada Day
  • Anniversary of their acceptance to the Union in 1864.
  • If Nevada Day is October 31st, why were they closed on the 26th?

Edited to add- Maybe they just wanted to get an early start, Vegas is a party town after allimage

Oh yeah, you could have taken a 1 3/4 hour drive through stunning Red Rock country to St George, UT. I hear they have a pretty nice shop there...image

Growing up in Carson City I always thought that Holloween was a holiday everywhere! Only in Nevada!
It used to be celebrated only on THE day not on the last Friday of the month. Dang gov't workers just wanted
    another 3 day weekend.
    Hmmmm,
