metal detector for a rookie?

My gf is planning to get me MD for an xmas gift. Which one is good for someone who doesn't know anything about MD and doesn't have to upgrade for a couple of years? Thanks in advance!

Garrett Ace150 is a good starter for you.

The Ace 250 is a good machine for a beginner- it has what's necessary to make some good finds and is not a "toy", but it is also cheap and simple.

My eight-year-old nephew has an Ace 150. That is a good model for kids.
