Jefferson Spouse set arrived today - what to do?

I just picked up a set of the Jefferson Liberty coins today. Took a pair in partial trade for a PCGS 1799 DBHE dollar. They are unopened in the original mint packaging. I took the trade as I liked the design moreso than for a quick flip. But, I would also like to maximize value. What is the opinion of this group regarding:
1. Forwarding sight unseen to PCGS for First Strike designation
2. Opening the boxes to inspect the coins before sending to PCGS - this nullifies the first strike option.
