Gold (mining) Junk Mail -- you getting it too?

In the last month I've noticed that I've been getting a lot of direct mail focused on gold. I get the very occasional investment pitch in the mail, but in the last few weeks I've been getting gold marketing every day.

Today's two pieces are a 22-page stapled booklet ending with deals on a "groundbreaking" info service ("Best Offer!": $159 for 3 years along with "the rare Mexican 2 peso gold coin whose $69 value should ratchet up as the great global gold marketing machine starts spinning."); and a glossy 12-page magazine on "profiting from the US Dollar Time Bomb" (a flaming Franklin FRN -- well, one with photoshopped flames -- graces its cover).

Messages: Gold and Oil offer best returns since 1970; public co's are poised for discoveries of vast new reserves; the Federal Reserve keeps printing more and more money; terrorism, the trade imbalance, and home loans gone bad are messing things up in a big way.

Anybody taking a closer look at this stuff? All I can say is that the Mexican 2-peso -- minted in the 40s when "US citizens were forbidden to own gold" -- sure looks purdy. image
