I think these boards were launched sometime in 2001, but there was another messageboad here before the launch of the "new boards". I'm not sure who has been here the longest, but I think some people from the old boards are still around.
lost my old username, but I have been around here since Feb. 2001, but was doing coins then and didn't really even know or pay attention to the sportscards forum
Coinhead was a Great guy! He died (I think) 2 years ago. Clw is still around. There is no way that someone today would be able to reach that amount of posts without the open forum.
the old Open Forum was a vacuum that sucked you in....a Hotel California of sorts...
I remember the Open Forum. I participated in a few debates. I see that alot of the high posters are into coins. They must get more action than the sports cards forum.

I guess that I got in earlier in the game than I thought. I was doing only game worn jerseys until 2001, then I finally decided that this grading thing might stick. Tried it, liked it, needed more!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
Wow, August 2002 for me. Can't believe it's been over five (5) years. But I didn't make my first post until January 12, 2004. Hmm. I guess I just read the boards early on.
Apparently the longest standing member who still has an active account on the "new" forum is simply known by the ID "John." He was the 4th person to register for CU; 1, 2, and 3 have all suspended their accounts or had them suspended. mikeschmidt is the longest standing member who is a regular on the Sports Cards & Memorabilia forum at 69th registered.

Are you saying Jay's round?
I'll be here 4 yrs in Jan - that's quite a bit of time.
I've seen them come and go in that time and have been an active participant.
I've definitely seen all kinds of stuff and have gotten in a few scrapes myself.
It can go from really interesting and fun - to ass numbingly boring - and all points between.
With respect to my hobby pursuits and enjoyment - I can't put a value on that time spent.
I've made some really good hobby friends and also some really good personal friendships also.
No matter what crap is happening outside and around this computer screen, I can always come here and get away from it all!
