Imposter Silver Quarter?

Anybody else ever find one of these? I opened a box of quarters and saw solid white on one coin in a roll indicating a silver quarter or at least a canadian. To my surprise, its a Vermont SQ. There is absolutely no copper showing on the edge of this. I even dropped it to see if it really wasn't silver which it isn't. Don't have any pics, but if you can imagine a vermont quarter with no copper showing on the edge, that's this.

It's probably a silver or "platinum" plated coin.

A lot of these are sold in magazines and on TV.

That's assuming, of course, that it's not a real silver proof.

DO you have a digital scale? Will probably be 5.67 grams, but you could luck out with a 6.25 gram one like cladking said.

ah, didn't think about it being plated. I don't have a scale, but that makes sense. I've never seen a clad quarter with such a perfectly silver edge.

Is it an "S" mint mark?

  • Nope, it's a P. And it definately doesn't have that silver sound when dropped.
