One of my favorite cards is the 1953 Topps Willie Mays. I always keep an eye out for this card on ebay. Then, one day, I took a close look at the card.
1. Why does Willie only have four fingers on his right hand?
2. Is that another "finger" growing between his middle finger and his index finger?
3. Why is Willie's right hand SO LARGE and his fingers CRAZY LONG?
4. And Willie's face is saying, "what the hell are you looking at?!"
Granted, it's just an artist's drawing and not an actual photograph. But still!
Just some random thoughts on a Saturday night.

Honestly, those are good observations that I have no answer for.

Auction: 1953 Topps Willie Mays PSA 6
It's a pretty good PSA 6 with good eye appeal. I see it going for ... hmmm ... say ... $1,750.00 (SMR on a PSA 6 is $1,600.00).

I always wondered about stuff like that myself? I guess the artist would talk about "perspective" and all that crap.
Here's an all-time favorite of mine when talking about the 'size' of something with respect to perspective:
I mean - come on! The glove looks bigger than all get out!
And on this one - look at Ryan's hand? Elephantitis?
Good observation on the vestigial extra "nub" growing out of Willie's hand.

He really does have huge hands. The Sport cover I posted a week or two ago shows them off well.

It's a pretty close copy of a real photo. It's been posted here before (and I think it's on the cover of this month's Beckett graded card magazine, or at least the issue I saw a couple of weeks ago loitering in Books-A-Million.)
The main thing he changed was the locale (the photo looks like it's from the Polo Grounds and not this lovely pastoral spring training diamond.)

And GDM67 is right, Mays does have very large hands.
1. Those hands are humongous!
2. Thay is one sweet picture!
I wonder where I can find a wire photo or at least a print of the picture to purchase.
Pomobileclk - Thank you. Any ideas? Have you ever seen this photo for sale - original, wire photo or a print? Thanks.
