image What in the world did they do to that??
  • Based on the bubble mailer marks it looks like it got stuck in a machine. Has marks on it like when a paper gets stuck going thru the copier. I assume it went thru a sorter and got stuck.

"We sincerely regret the damage..... however since you did not buy the inflated overpriced insurance we charge to guarantee that Waldo the maneating elephant doesn't handle your mail improperly, we will play the mandatory violin and say "There's nothing we can do"

    USPS---> Needs Competition
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • Oh damn. Too bad. That was a sweet auto. Clayton should be a killer once he gets to the bigs.
  • It must be nice to be the government and whenever you screw up, all you have to do is say "we care".

  • It is very difficult to compete with the USPS, because their prices are so low. Postal insurance is just like any other insurance -- if you need it, it is worth it, if you don't need it, you think it costs too much. It's up to you to decide.

No matter what means the USPS uses to transfer a package from one place to another, I think a bubble mailer is certainly not sufficient protection for cards, particularly raw ones. It's probably worth the risk up to some point, but above some threshold, I think a card deserves a box.

hell no they dont then we'd just have more companies with more screw ups, and 18 mailmen coming by your home/office everyday, i already got enough with usps/ups and unfortunately fedex which sucks balls.

That looks like a rigid toploader that got mangled?

If ya sandwich the toploader between cardboard - does that make it thick enough so that it wouldn't go thru a machine like that?

That's why I don't think it's a good idea to send PSA holders with just bubble envelopes.

Sorry about this mishap - to get money back from paypal - aren't ya gonna have to prove the seller didn't take proper care in shipment or something like that?

    Good luck

  • Mike-Your right on about increasing the thickness. Im under the assumption that when its too thick they have to hand sort it. I always add thickness for this exact reason.

Unsure what Paypal will say. Might say seller tried and Im sol. It was in a toploader.

If I lose my $8 no biggie. Im more bummed about not having the card. I have been picking up one of each of his autos (affordable ones) for my Dodger PC and these are getting harder to come by (uh...not harder... more $$ than $8. ) Try, try again.

Out of 1300 transactions over the years this is a 1st so I cant really get upset.

  • I think you should still send that in for grading. With what we've seen lately, does that still have a shot at a 9?

Problem is I probally cant get it out of the holder without messing it up.

  • I dont think that would make a difference in the grade

Doesn't Paypal require Delivery Confirmation? If the seller charges $2.50 for shipping, the least they can do is put DC on the package. It costs $1.88 like that. Of course, to get that rate, they'd have to make the package at least 3/4" thick so it won't go through machines...which likely would have prevented this problem altogether.
  • Agree on the DC. I could of been shady and acted like I never got the package...but I didnt.

See why I might have trouble getting it out of the holder?

If I get to keep it, as a joke I should ebay it and put " Any scratches you see are on the holder not the card."

  • At least an 8, a shot at a 9
  • I was thinking of forging Claytons initials by the creases ....like he did it and ok'd it...like you do on a check error. lol

You know whats funny is the USPS has bags made for stuff like this...uh ???

I wasn't trying to suggest shadiness...just pointing out that if the seller had done their job properly, the situation could have likely been avoided.

Oh no, I know. I wasnt trying to imply that. I agree with you that they should of and it would of prevented this. I just wanted to mention that others in this situation might of taken that route.

For me, after having 3-4 peole say they never got their item from me, I now use DC on anything over $3 or on a trade.

Those are affectionately known as "body bags" and believe it or not some post offices don't have them or use them. I work at a lot of offices so I have a stash of them in my truck just in case I need one.

Paypal won't refund you unless you say you didn't get it or you can show inadequate packaging resulting in the item not as described. I bought some rare packers portraits once and the guy shipped them in between pieces of construction paper that was too short to cover them; surprisingly enough they arrived damaged. I did receive a refund.

Damage like that happens now and then when a small package gets turned upright, and gets caught on the side of the conveyor belt or gets caught at the end when it's been sorted and supposed to drop into the hamper. The next packages coming down the line keep pushing it to go ahead even though it's stuck. Think of people trying to get into best buy on black friday morning, your package is the guy who got his foot caught under the door. In this case if they had used DC and made it thicker it probably wouldn't have made any difference. The card might have been protected with a cardboard sandwich but maybe that wouldn't have been enough either. Kind of the luck of the draw and your package lost.

I see one damaged like that about once every 3 or 4 months. It's possible that you can take it with the body bag to your post office and ask them to reimburse you, and since it's such a small $ amount they might. They'll want to keep the card if they pay you. Print the ebay listing and your paypal receipt and be nice.

  • Yikes. I never received anything damaged until a couple of weeks ago. I decided to rebuild a golf cart and ordered diamond plated flooring for it. The seller sent it Fed Ex. When it came in, the corner of the box was bent in as though it was dropped off the truck. I would've complained about it, but the delivery guy left it rather than getting my signature on what was supposed to be delivery confirmation.

I was able to fix the damaged corners on the plating but decided to contact the seller to let him know. I never got any form of response at all. At the very least it would've been cool to get a "sorry your stuff was messed up".

On a USPS related note I was recently asked to confirm a counterfeit Ripken minor league card for a credit card company. I checked the card and typed out a letter with my findings and opinion. I sent the card and letter back express delivery priority mail with insurance. It took the package 13 days to get there.
