Is this clip real?

Don't look right to me. The design doesn't show any weakening at the edge of the clip. Maybe some subtle Blakesly effect. The edge of the clip looks cut after the fact.

I see Blaksley effect, but I don't see the metal 'flow' into the clip...i'm inclined to say it's real, but I'm not 100% sure...

I too see the Blakesly, but do not like the clip appreance. The letters typically soften as they approach the edge of the clip.... perhaps that is on a harder metal than copper? And what about those vertical lines up the clipped rim? I don't normally see those.

Your second from the last pic, really makes this look suspicious for me far greater then the obv/rev shots.

Be interesting to see what Fred has to say?

Maybe both... it was real (Blakesly) then someone enlarged it!

I would not buy it, but lets ask Sean. image

I see a very nice Blakesley Efffect,
    slight metal flow, and cut-n-tear
marks on the edge of the clip.

    It looks fine to me.

    What holder is it in?

what is your picture setup? How did you get such great shots?

The reverse close up looks a bit like it was after the fact but the Blakesley looks right.

I think the rev close up made it look like the metal is smeared above the surface but I'm assuming it's the angle of the photo through the holder making it look that way.

I'll go with it being real.

That's the appearance I was expecting. Fred seemed comfortable with it. I would like to hear from seanq.

Fred is THE MAN! I would completely trust his opinion on this coin.

As for the vertical lines on the edge of the clip, remember that blanks are punched from the copper strip so vertical lines are something that can occur on a clip.
