Need some help on pricing 1891-CC VAM 3

I was at the local coin show this morning and found a 1891-CC VAM 3 (spitting eagle) in an old rattler graded 63. Now there is no question in my mind or dealer's (long time friend) that its a 64. I am looking to offer him a price, but I have no desire at this point to resubmit it out of the rattler for an upgrade. The coin is original, no toning, nicely struck and the only distraction is a hit on the lips which is distracting at 5X but not noticeable otherwise. I am buying to keep in my VAM collection and not for resale. He had two others in 63, NGC and PCI but this was a far better coin.

Question is what should I offer him for it, he has an $850 sticker on it but price is negotiable. BTW its on hold for me for 60 days. I am out of my knowledge-league on this one. What do you guys think?

Edited to add: I picked up a nice 55 mint set in the original mailing envelope. image

Counter offer $775, settle at $800 IMHO

Ironically, even though it is really cool, it is not rare. In fact it is the most common of all the 91-CC varieties. (That last part is straight out of the Top 100 bookimage) No premium for it.

Ditto what Becky said. Never pay even a cent of premium for a Spitting Eagle variety.

And if you ever want to have fun at a show, look at 10 or more 1891-CCs during the course of the show. If even half of them are not Spitting Eagles it will be unusual.
    When in doubt, don't.

What everyone else said. Whatever price guide you use, the price for the 1891-CC is for the spitting eagle.

Actually, I think it's more common than all other 91-CC varieties combined.
