Would you crack out this 1867 PR 3Cent Silver to regrade? Please Grade for me!! Grade revealed in ne

I was considering cracking this proof 3 cent piece out for a friend of mine. The coin is not green or yellow in appearance. It is silver and the fields are reflective. I was shooting the photos in florescent light without the proper lighting adjustment to the camera. The hairlines are in the slab. Suffice it to say it resides in an OGH. Please tell me your grade. I will reveal the actual grade tomorrow evening.

Do not crack that coin if you are sending it to PCGS. It will come back with "environmental damage."

That spot to the lower right of the star is very faint, despite what the photo shows. The color of the coin is silver. I was shooting the photo under a florescent lamp and did not have the proper filters on te lens. What would you grade the coin?

I wouldn't crack it either. If it comes back same grade, it would sell for less. OGH holders usually get better money in my opinion.

Assuming all those hairlines are on the slab, the coin is 63. Need it in hand for any grade higher.

I don't know the series very well but I'll take a swag (scientific wild a** guess) and say PF 62. I know you said that spot to the lower right of the star is faint, but it just jumps out at me.

Regardless, I would not crack this coin out. OGHs often contain nice, original coins and can bring a premium just for that reason - in spite of what some on this board may think.

The coin is impossible to grade from the photos and not very attractive from the images IMO.

trimes are very hard to grade from pics, but all in all this one does not appear to be very appealing

Agree, hard to grade trimes from pics. You have lines going in different directions depending on what pic you look at. Hard to tell what is in the slab, and what is a hairline. Highest grade I can guess for this coin is PR64. If a bunch of lines are in the slab, maybe a 65 if it is very reflective and not a bit dull like the pic makes it out to be.

What is the motivation for cracking the coin out? It would have to be a good reason to lose the certification.

Ok, it has a grade of PF 63. If you could see the coin in hand you would likely think differently on this one. Under 10x, this coin may have one or two marks at best. But I defer to the wiser judgement and knowledge of the board and will recommend he leave as is.
