why, is he taking preorder cash for something again?

he disappeared with alot of peoples cash in 2003 for the second edition of cherrypickers. he never made good with me, Whitman had to.

I hope he crawled back under his rock again, and stays there.

If you knew JT personally, you'd ashamed to say such things. He's a great guy and a true Southern gentleman. He had some health problems which delayed the Vol. 2 project. Perhaps the advance order debacle was annoying, but I think it is in very bad taste to not be at least a little forgiving.

JT and Bill are working on the update of Vol. 1 of the Cherrypicker's guide, due in 2008, and since Whitman (dentuck) is cracking the whip, you can be sure it will get done on time.

JT left PCI and the owner is holding on for now. I don't know how they can survive.

    Rick

While I respect you, and your opinion, I stand by my comments. You are not the one who endured years of excuses and plain outright BS by this man. Health problems, drug problems, whatever it was, he plain out and out lied to people. A true man stands by his mistakes, and doesn't tell lies or make excuses to cover his short comings. Had he just said to me, hey I messed up, I can't take care of this, instead of making BS excuses, Id have a different outlook on the entire deal. He didn't.

Rick, did he or did he not take the money people paid him for the second edition? I would like to know.

He did, plus after disappearing for quite sometime, he sent BS emails stating all kinds of reasons and promises. Had he told the truth, slack would've been cut. Again, He didn't.

Whitman sent me the book, which I ended up paying 40 bucks for in 2003. I paid the premium for a signed & # copied, which I did not recieve.

    The man still owes me.

I, too, preordered the CPG. I paid for it about 2 years before I actually got it, and it wasn't signed, but Whitman did honor my prepayment...I will say, though, that JT has made me more than enough money to offset that between the two books, many times over, and I didn't really mind the wait (honestly, I forgot I'd ordered it a couple of times until I got one of the emails from him)...I don't know him personally, so I can't vouch for the kind of person he is, but, man, that is an awesome book and worth the wait! For example, a couple of mon ths after I got it, I cherrypicked a 1952-D Huge D Washington quarter (ANACS graded it AU-58) and made about $140 profit on it...That's a variety I never would've known about were it not for that book...

I certainly wish no ill will upon the man but I think it really takes some nerve to go on like nothing ever happened to God knows how many people. It's funny how people want him to be given a free pass for that fiasco yet if that was some ebay seller that pulled that stunt I'd bet the sentiments would be the exact opposite.

    << <i>annoying >>

??? You are certainly entitled to your opinion Rick but that's not a word I'd use to describe the situation. Thankfully Whitman made good on things. Well apparently there are people that still never received what they paid for right here on this thread so I spoke too soon.

Those of you that never received the book. I will try and remember who it was that helped me out. It was actually a forum member here that is a whitman employee. If you PM me, I'll try and find that info.

I'm sure that's more about logistical problems than a desire to beat you out of something. After all, it doesn't cost JT anything to sign a book.

As for those of you who don't understand how people don't always perform perfectly when under the gun, I trust that life will one day teach you that lesson. Savor the education, if you can.

Why were my several requests over 3 years for a refund ignored? Never so much as a reply or anything.

If some of you want to condone what happened and make excuses, I'm sorry, there is no excuse. If the project couldn't go forward you refund all monies. If people request refunds you refund their money. If it's not going as planned and you're refunding monies then shut the ordering website down.

    Just my opinion of course.

Take it from Andy and Rick and myself.

The deal about the book was not the greatest.

I've know JT for over 20 years. What Rick and Andy say is true.

Walk in a man's shoes and you'll know exactly what is going on, and none of us have done that.

Again, not saying what he did is OK, but the man had some serious problems. He has now come thru those issues.

If you guys aren't out the cash or the book, it takes some nerve to criticize those who are out both. That's despicable.

Dentuck is the Whitman employee you're thinking of. This old post has the instructions for getting preorders filled, which I was given by a Whitman employee back when they first acquired the rights to the book. I eventually did get mine from Whitman, unsigned and unnumbered as many of you have also stated.

Also, Rick, I'm surprised to read that Bill Fivaz is involved in a fifth edition. When the 4th Ed Vol 2 delays started mounting, several people (myself included) tried to follow up on our orders with Bill, and we were told that he no longer had anything to do with the publication.

Interesting "press release" on PCI's website:

    "As of September 26,2007

J.T. Stanton is no longer working at PCI Inc.

Today is Friday, October 26, 2007"

Sounds like a not to pleasant departure. Too bad as I thought JT could really do some good at PCI.
