just 2 days ago a PSA 9 example of that card went for $3,150. i thought that was kinda crazy. but heck, that's a bargain compared to the $29,246 PSA 10... image

I have the finest '75 Topps Ryan I've ever seen - raw - sitting in a safety deposit box right now. Bought it for $25 years and years ago. .

    Hmm.

All three of these seem out of wack

    # 1969 Topps #250 Frank Robinson PSA 9 MINT $6,433.00
    # 1975 Topps #70 Mike Schmidt PSA 10 GEM MINT $5,591.00
    # 1982 Topps Traded #98T Cal Ripken Jr. PSA 10 GEM MINT $2,795.00

I know the Schmidt and Ripken are not that hard to find nice examples, unsure if the Frank is like the Lou Brock but still alot of money.

I'm currently selling on Ebay a 1975 Johnny Bench GIA 9.5 GEM MINT and a 1975 Tony Perez GAI 10 - PERFECT, which is a notch higher than the Gem Mint rating. I wonder if these will be in that same stratosphere?

    PERFECT PEREZ

    GEM MINT BENCH

Dude if you could have your family and friends bid on them for you and if you knew what the high bid is for every bidder you might have a chance image Also if you had all the bidders call you direct and then you placed the bids for them and extended the auction every time someone else bids near the end you should have a good shot.

This is the one that jumped out at me:

    # 1958 Topps #433 Pancho Herrera (Herrar) PSA 8 NM/MT $25,461.00

Now, admittedly, I know very little about the '58 set, but it seems $25K for a PSA 8 common is a tad high, even for a condition/variation scarcity?

The '69 Robinson is a condition sensitive card but not nearly as tough as the Brock. I haven't looked up the population report but there are probably at least a half dozen 9's of the Robinson. I think I recall seeing one sell on eBay awhile ago for around $1k. Maybe someone can check VCP to verify. $6k definitely seems inflated.

I have a '69 Topps Frank Robinson PSA 9 and I paid $950 for mine about 2 years ago on eBay.

Dan, that's about what I perceive the value to be. Maybe slightly higher now. Can't imagine anyone paying >$6k for it though. The '69 Brock pop 1 doesn't even command that price.

speaking of which, i still get can't believe the $29k for that '75 ryan PSA 10. that price(along with a few others listed) is really difficult to fathom. i figured it would fetch $29K in or around 2027, not 2007...

I think all of you by now should take auction houses prices with a grain of salt. I fully believe that there is so much funny business (e.g., artificial hype and internal shilling) going on behind the scenes that I would not trust or believe anything coming out of auction houses.
  • What Steve said ...

Take that "9" and keep resubmitting.

It makes me sick to think of the money I've lost by not following this concept.

Do bidders in live auctions ever do the nuclear bid hopping to not lose the item and that they might overpay a little to only find out it was run up to the top of their bid. I could see someone bidding 6500 on the Robinson with the thought it might hit 2K at most but not dreaming it would hit that high.
