There were alot of great deals this auction. At least i think there was. A Gordie Howe and Tim Horton rookie graded SGC = to PSA 6 went for over 1500.00. I have seen PSA 5's of just the Howe on e-bay hit 2,000. Alot of the hockey went for great deals. Same for the basketball. I don't collect baseball but i'm sure there were deals there as well.
Poor advertising on Mastro's part did this one in. I usually get there books and i didn't know anything about the auction intil the day before the auctions ended.
Well did anybody take advantage of the deals ? I tried bidding on the Howe and Horton but the auction was 2 far into it so i was not allowed to bid.

The 20% juice and all the negative bull running around about the auction houses, just takes the old wind out of the sails.

<< <i>I think its the first time I didn't even place a bid in 4-5 years . Had a few items on the watch list, but never pulled the trigger.

I agree. I was tempted to bid on a few lots but this auction just didn't excite me much in terms of baseball. The high grade single cards and packs went for about what was expected or more, and the sets and various lots had too much low grade stuff in it to pique my interest. I was tempted to bid on Lionel Carter's modern set remnents but there's so few money cards in those years that it's a big gamble to hope for a 10 on one of those few cards. And I need more late 80s/early 90s sets like I need another hole in my head!
Incidentally I was really disappointed that Mastro auctioned garbage "grocery cello packs". It further erodes my opinion of them.
They have great customer service, I'll give them that. Got the Aug catalog out very quick after emailing.
The 75/76 basketball box looked cheap at $910, w/ juice. Somebody got a deal on that. I agree, their reputation has probably caught up with then. The Mastro auction name isn't invicible to a decline.
