This is my first large cent.
There is something going on with the letters in Liberty the "BER" look
like there are doubled?
Would please give your opinion on the grade.

If the color is accurate, I think it's been cleaned.

I agree with the cleaning comments, however, you asked for grade opinions.
In my opinion, it probably grades as a commercial F15+ to VF20, as far as technical wear detail.
The EAC folks would be much harsher, and would probably net grade as a VG, due to the marks and cleaning.
I'm also going to speculate that it is either an N4 or N5, both of which are R2's (not scarce varieties) - but then again,
you should get more opinions, as I'm just a walker guy image

It is an N.5, R2. Actually the letters IBER have all been repunched which isn't uncommon for large cents. Dates often have similar rupunch doubling. Although your coin has quite a few significant hits, the mark between the S and the O is actually a die scratch. Coin has nice surfaces for having had a tough life. I'm not ready to declare it cleaned. Excellent start. Finish out the 1820s and you'll have something to be proud of with only 10 coins. --Jerry

Your coin is a Newcomb 5 (N5). Known for its sawtooth
dentils, recut IBER and use of rev D die. Might grade VF 20.

mojoman -- awesome "my 2 cents" ! Did you photoshop it?

papabear - isn't it great you can get N5 attribution, PLUS hits vs. die scratch info and all that.

cool thread guy, and nice post, Jerry! Makes me want to continue my old-timey copper collection...
