    A classic example indeed.

I don't consider this spam. Is she selling something? or just making people aware of another forum? If the later, then it's not spam IMO. No different than Hussolo did the other day.

The difference in my eyes is that Hussolo has established himself on the forum and contributes, whereas 001JoycesCoins is on post #3. Maybe 001JoycesCoins should do some introductions first before hitting the group with advertising.

I don't find myself bothered by her post at all.

  • I'd tend to give her the benefit of the doubt (so far).... I think she's just trying to share her interests....

The link in her profile is set up incorrectly, but this is it... Properly Linkified

Along with images of some of her coins on her page there, (I hope there's no problem with me quoting it here) is the following.....

    Commemorative coins
My collection of coins does not have any "theme" but simply reflects my desire to purchase and keep certain ones issued to celebrate special occasions.

The oldest & smallest of these is in fact one of my most recent, & most expensive, purchases ie. a Queen Victoria gold sovereign. However one of my favorite old commemorative coins celebrates the 1951 Festival of Britain (5 shillings).

Added to those that I've bought over the years, are the British coins that are in circulation today that have various designs such as the 50p , £1 & £2 coins. I cannot bring myself to spend a coin that is different in its design!!

Like most people I have lots of old pennies....none of which are valuable....and many of the old pre-decimal British coins that I have kept for sentimental reasons only. I remember as a girl receiving a half-crown (12 & 1/2p) or a florin (10p) and thinking I was rich!

I have many foreign coins also that I have not photographed, for as with most people they have been acquired whilst on holidays or have" turned up "in change!

Do hope that you find my small collection of interest and if you have a coin collection of your own.....why not show it off ?

She's apparently trying to get involved more with her collecting...... I'd cut her some slack for the moment till she gets more comfortable here or does eventually prove to be a spammer......

That being said.... WELCOME ABOARD JOYCE......

Not to mention her professionalism in using a big-breasted blond babe icon....image

I have an overactive imagination today. What runs through my mind is an image of Brutus sitting somewhere in a shady bar in Liverpool anxiously waiting for somebody to be charmed by Joyces' icon, and proceeding to innocently click on the link. It takes you to a site which prompts you to add a user ID and password. Little do you know that the instant the password is saved, Brutus has a routine which instantly launches a search of 750 known websites for a match on the new id/password/email address you have provided, including ebay, paypal, amazon.com, etc. If he hits only 1 successful match in 10 people that sign up, then he instantly has $2000 to spend, which more tan covers the measly $400 to setup the shell site and host it on a DSN name for 2 months. After success on the first day, he buys his buddies a round of ale and shots of whisky to celebrate.

Isn't diversity always welcome in forums like this?

Nothing is wrong with diversity. It's "fly-by" self-promoting on 4 separate boards that I don't agree with. If you want people to check-out your forums, at least you can do is introduce yourself first. In fact, out of those 4 boards only "Metal Detecting" got a "Hi"...

I was going to complement them on their site's design, but two clicks later I confirmed that it's an out-the-box site based on Dolphin. EveryoneCollects evidently didn't bother to proof their site before going live.. the About Us page is still the preformatted text.
  • Last Thursday, a member at my website posted a number of messages in your forum, you may remember her - 001joycescoins; I've discovered this having googled my site's web address and quickly came across the negative feedback that the user had left in her wake.

On a first note, may I sincerely apologise for the nuisance that this user created. While it might seem that they were knowingly spamming your forum, I'd like to advise that having spoken with them, it would appear that as a relative novice, who was entirely unaware , and yes ignorant too, of the etiquette they should have observed, she was simply trying to promote the site, and indeed her collection of coins.

On a second note. The big-breasted blonde-babe icon that she used to identify her profile, was selected purely on its name 'BOB'. The user has assured me that she never saw what the icon looked like, and she simply picked on its name because of her Jack Russell Terrier - also named 'Bob'. To be fair, I've spoken with Joyce, and she's well into grandmother territory and not at all as the icon might suggest. What's more, she was thoroughly upset with herself when I contacted her to point out the annoyance that she had sparked. If it's any consolation, i've got no idea what the icon i've picked looks like either.

On a final note and on behalf of the site, which incidentally was proof read - except for that damned 'about us' page image, I'm sincerely sorry for any hassle that these actions created.

    Happy Coin Collecting

I agree with ajaan. Thanks for posting that!

BTW, I've seen some grandmothers who kinda look like that. When I was a kid, grandmothers only looked old!
