New: 2007 Presidential Dollars 69SF

Same old state quarter thread but now i have edited it for Presidential coins. i have them in. Please PM with price list while they last. Some of these are going to be real tough in top grade. no 70's and i suspect there won't be.

Are you kidding? 70's? I only have 7 out of the 10 coins in 69. No Montana P or D or Wyoming P. 22 69's in total out of a search of 600 sets or 6,000 coins or .36%

    LOL - Patience??

Are you expecting results to improve any time soon?

P.S. I am hoping to get my results on the first roughly 50 sets my "team" screened later today or tomorrow, or the next day?

Any grades on the SF 2007 Nickels?

    Thanks, GrandAm image

Grandam, I think I sent in only one nickle and it might possibly be a 9 but no finals as yet.

By the way, these states are almost sold out as i have 8 of the 22 in 69sf remaining. There will be others by other hunter/dealers but there is no real gauge as to what the correct pricing might be, so i'm starting lower than in previous years even though these seem to be much tougher than other years.
  • wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,974 ✭✭✭✭✭
Mark: What levels are you assigning to the MS69 SF state quarters? This would be good information for board members to ensure they are not paying too much elsewhere?

Mitch, shoudn't we be sleeping - we need to get a lifeimage

You know, that is the problem with the written word (at least when i write these days) it is hard to tell exactly the context of the message for sure. I usually wind up offending someone and then I wind up taking a break for many months from the boards. I do like to spice up the boards now and then as they are so damn controlled by PCGS and the little gestapo guys. The good old days are flat out over................I will now read my Mahatma Ghandi book and go meditate in the corner.

Mark - I had plenty of sleep. How about you?

Not interested in discussing your levels? No problem - that gives me an idea.

P.S. Thanks for the PM explaining that the comment was referencing both of us and how many hours we work (and the need to party more) and providing me the pricing information.

Mitch, i know you would not publish your levels openly. I will be glad to help out anyone who needs pricing by private email.

4.5 Hrs. into my day already

    Let's play nice image
  • With only 22 State Q's out of 600 sets, why are price wars a concern? Maybe 2 people get help putting most of a set together? Mitch, with 50 sets, you'll be lucky to make 1 or maybe 2 right? That's not enough inventory to qualify for "competitive pricing".

  • wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,974 ✭✭✭✭✭
Seth - You may be right, but my reference to 50 sets was with respect to my first submission batch at PCGS. I have 3 separate batches in for grading now.

Look - Mark has stated that he landed -22- MS69 state quarters out of 6,000 candidates - right? About 1/3 of 1% of the coins. If that is the case and that % continues, my first 50 sets should land around 2 MS69 coins. But, I personally thought my coins were nicer than that - so, I'm shooting for a handful+! LOL.

You should also be close to getting some results Seth - no?

  • Yes, we have several orders in that should be done soon, however it seems that Mark had a little quicker service than us. I'm guessing that they're getting backlogged. We're not done by any means though. We went through almost 3000 - 2006 mint sets last year, just not in the first week or two. We'll repeat this year, so when everyone else has "cashed in", we'll still be rolling on for those that didn't want to pay top dollar on day 1 in open auction. We'll have competitive pricing. image

Seth, you and Mitch are competitive and i do not blame you. i would worry too as I am the MPH - Most Prolific hunter

Edited to say - oh by the way. i got my sets on a Friday and worked them 15 hours a day until monday morning and was down at PCGS at 10:00 including a 2 hour drive. As you know this stuff does not get done without a huge amount of physical and mental hardship and a reasonable cash investment.

Mike, we all have California "shake and bake" house payments and insurance policy's to pay. Besides, is this not fun? i never sell anything from the boards.

Congrats to you and the marathon you went through to get them in!

MPH award has yet to be determined. Perhaps a 2007 Mint Set in the Registry will show the winner of the award?

Seth, in all honesty you will be the real MPH as I will likely not do too many more sets. You know how i blast through these things and move on to the next thing. i already have several thousand silver proof sets on the way from 1992-

Maybe you can hand us the right sets to search as we don't have your golden touch?

I know how you do it, just giving you a hard time. It's not always easy to sit on a 28 coin top pop set to prove the point. You certainly blow through a lot of searching in record times, so MPH cannot be limited to one US Mint product release. You do have a way of showing up first, I'll say that!

Now would that be fair???? Although it will give you some time for fun in the sun!!
  • I'll pay a finder's fee if you can sell me the right sets to search. Today it's fun in the Smoke and Red Sun.

Seth - Yes, but our coins are gaining a natural smokey patination out here around the rims that may increase the eye appeal and kick our coins into the MS69 grade much easier.

Interesting theory, however our office is controlled by purified air, so no chance of contaminants. PCGS seems to have good air too.

FYI - I decided to oder 300 more satin finish mint sets and they definitily look even worse overall so far than my last 600. This is an early preview but the pres dollars are quite a bit worse both P & D and the Sac's horrible. kennedy's worse, dimes and lincoln's the same. jefferson better and state so far are about the same - real tough. I think htere are enough dealers working this stuff where the coins will come but the trend so far are for worse sets rather than better as many had hoped. Right now my stuff is selling on Ebay in SF69 for under slab price. Does anyone collect this stuff?
  • I too am noticing a notable difference in quality between different orders. The last 100 D sets I went through looked like the P's do, so it's not just you Mark. All searches run in streaks, so if you find a brick of smooth rim dollars, let me know. image

Better luck on your next search,
    Seth

  • I am kind of new to collecting and submitted my first submissions. How do you guy's make any money. Especially when submitting satin finish dollars and quarters that don't grade that well. Would you say, that it's a big risk and really a crap shoot. Unless you know someone with a good eye, you could lose alot of money. Good luck on gettin a 70, this is my first message post and I did see 1 guy got a sf70 D jefferson I think it was position B.

Unless you can screen the coins, you can take a big hit on grading fees.

The fact is, sometimes its cheaper to just wait and buy from the Big Boys later on.

rbalderman1 welcome to the boards. imageimageimage

And yes it's a crap-shoot most of the time. But, most of the guys posting in this thread are experts at what they do. And as such, they can out perform us average dudes, thus they more often than not, come out on top.
After all how long would they stay in business if they lost money more often than making a profit.
Remember, they do bulk submissions, (at a much cheaper rate) but still must get enough high grades to make it worth while. Besides, they have the best eyes this side of PCGS. Some may tell you they have a better eye than PCGS. image But you didn't hear that from me. image
