Help Identify some Medals...

I know nothing about medals, but I think they are very cool.

Can anyone provide any info on these? Or, even tell if they are authentic?

Thank you

Len

They appear to be Society of Medalists issues. From c.1930 until 1995 the Society of Medalists issued two medals per year (only one in 1995.) The medals were designed by important artists/sculptors of the day. A most interesting series.

Ok...Thanks 291fifth, I was able to find out a wealth of information on these.

Were there any reproductions? How can I tell if these medals are authentic?

    Thx again

    What 291fifth said.

Even without checking, I recognize the top left as #1 in the series, the one to it's right as #2, and the one below #2 as #4 in the series. I assume that the two frames are numbers 1-4 and 5-8.

There is a Society of Medalists Collector's Guide online.

These are worth quite a bit of money. I don't collect them myself, but my impression is that pretty much any SOM medal is worth $20, and most of them are worth $50+. Several are worth $100+. Numbers 2 and 4 regularly sell for $200+ apiece. If you have more than the eight that you pictured, you're likely talking thousands of dollars.

There are also silver versions, which are worth even more...
