they were going for almost 1500. a couple of years ago, but seem to have dropped down to about half that. You should still be ok, just don't eat the cookie!
never seen one that wasn't a cookie version, that is how they were getting around Topps monopoly on issueing cards with gum/candy.

I think that wax prices going lower is a reflection of market confidence in GAI. I'd try getting the stuff into PSA holders and hold it if you can afford to.

    ain't that the truth!!

I have been putting away key packs and tough packs that I can get cheap. I was bidding on that 55 and completely forgot it was ending due to a hectic schedule. I sold one for 1800 less than 2 years ago which was a low price at the time but I owned it cheap. that pack for 850 was an absolute bargain!!
  • Guess who got it????? ME!!!!! I couldn't believe it. My snipe went off and my name came up. It was the steal of the year so far. I am thinking about crossing it over. I figure it's worth at least $1300-$1700. Any suggestions on what I should do with it (Please don't say rip it)

I definitely wouldn't rip it, as there seems to be moisture damage to the pack and the cards are most likely affected, too. A rare pack!

ah i also forgot ..i dont see much of a different in the graded prices between psa and gai to be honest with you...i recently sold some 1979-80 opc hockey wax packs for way more than i did as psa packs...as far as the crossing over its not worth it to me..i dont like the idea of my pack being handled and going through the ringer so many times if you know what i mean..person to person here and there...

I agree, until PSA has a registry that includes packs I think prices will be flat. GAI had a bad run of grocery cellos that soured the market a bit, and there are so many ungraded fakes out there it's turned a lot of people away. Also, as was pointed out at the registry luncheon a few years ago, most people will pick up 1 pack of a year and move on. Unless new collectors start buying packs (and I'm sure that would happen if PSA included them in the registry) prices will stay low, as will submissions and crossovers.

i agree griffins but my main thing is that when you send them from here to there and back there is also a good chance that they can be damaged and the prices i see from psa packs has been lower than gai...thats just what i see..i know gai is not perfect and they have made alot of mistakes like those grocery cellos the cost of crossing them over just isnt worth it to me ..maybe down the road but not now...just my thoughts...terry

I agree they can be very fragile, and I haven't crossed any of my packs. Neither reason nor incentive to do so, and I prefer the smaller global holder that doesn't overwhelm the pack visually like PSA's does.

Original Topps cello packs from the early 70's contain anywhere from 33 cards (1970 baseball and FB) to 27 cards (1972) wrapped in clear cellophane and then placed in a cardboard box with the pricing info, FYI there are legit 72 cello's with the pricing info printed directly on the cellophane.

The 1970 thru 1973 baseball and football grocery cello packs GAI graded contained 10 to 12 cards wrapped in clear cellophane.

Speaking of a pack registry, I started a collectors showcase for my psa packs, let me know what you think and if you have any comments, suggestions. Thanks, John

  • They are trying to say that the "grocery" cellos are like the grocery rack packs once they are seperated. What you are left with is the 3 individually wrapped cellos that were held inside the rack pack which they would then grade. Only problem is, I opened a TON of this stuff in the early 70's and all the racks I ever opened had loose cards in each sleeve.
Thats where the scandal comes in about grocery cellos since there are a ton of them on ebay, except lately, I have noticed the word "grocery" completely omitted from the GAI flip and in any part of the auction description....

The last year Topps packaged individual 12 card cello packs into rack packs was 1967.
