Mercury upgrades and Stokely collection

Gad people, I just checked the Mercury dime registry and there are 12 collections upgraded!
Among other upgrades, Python1 (Dennis) continues to squeeze the competition (pretty cool snake reference, right?) by adding a 24-S. I think this coin allowed him to slither (yet another snake reference--I'm really hot tonight!) past Fairlaneman (Ken) into 4th place. Is this analysis correct? Meanwhile, TGGR (Linda and Ray, right?) adds the maximum allowable, 2 coins, thereby moving up the list. M Rellinger (who I guess doesn't participate in this board) forgot that he was not allowed to add anything and so also added 2 coins.
There were a bunch of other additions. But, take a look at Stephen Stokely's collection. He added a 16-D in MS65FB and upgraded to a 45-P in MS66FB! I mentioned in another post that I have two coins he used to have in his collection but which he has since up-graded and so has sold off the coins. Let me tell you that if you like un-toned coins, Stokely has a GREAT eye: Both the coins I have are incredibly "white," frosty, and lusterous. All I can say is that if he sells his now replaced 45-P (which I bet was a 65FB) my best guess is that there will be a beautiful coin floating around looking for a home! And, my best guess is that two very beautiful coins (the 16-D and 45-P) have found a worthy home!

Two nice upgrades by the new #9.
I've been working on my m.s. and proof Washington sets, and let my Mercs slip a notch! I better get back to them or risk fallin' out of the top 10!
Then, there's my Standin' Libs that have been standin' stagnant for too long. Geeze, so many nice coins and so little "junk" money!!! LOL!
Congrats to all on ALL the recent upgrades. Nice to see a worthy set gaining popularity!
Ken, conceedin' dibs on Aaron's '29-S, but watch out in the future! LOL
Good luck on fillin' that hole!
Regards,
Don

I didn't bid on the '29-S. Saw it too late to "mark" it.
I did "mark" his '29-P. Since all my $ has gone to the Washingtons, lately, "markin'" them is about all that I can do!
Hope to get back to them soon.
Then, every once in a while, I just have to buy a Standin' Lib
edited to fix link.

I doubt I will ever even reach the top 10, but it is fun moving ahead ever so slowly. Dont forget, if you need a home for your lonely No Bands Mercurys, contact me.. they deserve a place in the sun (the registry) too.
My passion for these little beauties has, once again, become aroused.
Out surfin' eBay last night, and couldn't resist adding an upgrade . It won't help as much as a hole filler would have, but the price, I thought, was right.
Anyone need a nice '28 ms64FB!
I think that Pat should catch-up to me before I ever catch Dennis and Ken.
Good luck to everyone in gettin' those completion percentages up!
I have a feelin' we'll all be tryin' to keep up with the "Jones" collection someday!
DeepCoin, I can appreciate your "no bands" way of collecting. You must have some GORGEOUS "Winged Liberty Heads"!!!
Let the Fun continue, and worry NOT!!!

Don
BTW - can't get in to veiw the sets, lately. Keep gettin' PCGS ERROR!
edited to put an "l" in "compLetion".
Gorgeous Winged Liberty and
You have violated the first rule of the PCGS Mercury set, up-grading without first obtaining permission from Mark. In keeping with the rules set forth in your agreement, you must forfeit the coin to him. Please send it priority insured to him on Monday. (Fairlaneman is allowed to upgrade because he is so far in front of Mark that Mark can't even catch sight of him!)
Sincerely,
PCGS staff
Ray&Linda is right that is our set.
For upgrading our set without permission we are restricting ourselves from attending a coin show for a week. LOL.
To bad we missed you at the Fun show.
Ray
Are you going to reply to my earlier thread? Do I have permission or not?
Don, that was a nice addition, I too was looking at that one...real pretty!

Got a question? How do you guys get that ----------- (line) and the links listed under it without having to redo them every time you post? or do you?

I can't ask PCGS about that rule without them thinking that I'm QuattroLoco!
As I don't have the coin yet, and would like to stay in good standings, I will gladly send you a bright and shiny new 2001-D Roosey. Probably grade-out at ms69+++!!!
Dennis,
To add a "signature", click on profile while logged-in. You can add a signature that will show up on all your posts. To add a link, you have to click on symbols, below the signature box, for instructions. Hope this helps.

I just added my Standing Lib. set, and hope to do the same with some of them.
Too bad that I already gave PCGS warning. I put NGC cross-overs in the set desciption, but the "NGC" got edited out.
Just hope that they show mercey on me.
Dennis,
Can't get your link to work.

Winged Liberty and
There's never enough "green stuff" for all the nice coins out there!!!
My only complete set was easy,...only 22 coins!
As someone once put it, "I got too many irons in the fire"!
I doubt that my Mercs, Standing Libs., or m.s. Washingtons will ever be complete.
Too many "distractions"(?)! LOL
Love those Walkers and Buffalos too!!!
and Commems!!!
I'd like to register a Walker set too, but i would have to change my handle to CincoCoins!
Buffalos,
Walkers,
Winged Liberty, and
More seriously, I, too, have a concern about mailing coins. So I also was going to take a few coins with me to submit to PCGS and others to try to cross to PCGS. None were dimes, but that doesn't really matter because the sin of sloth struck and I didn't take anything. My fervent hope is that I won't procrastinate as much in March when the early ANA convention is in Jacksonville. I presume PCGS will be there and so I might actually get the coins together to take with me.
It seems as if we have an active and (fortunately) good natured group of Mercury collectors. I think I have concentrated a bit more on Mercuries because of this fact. And darn, I was just looking at the registry list to complain about additions and up-grades and I noticed that Stephen Stokely has up-graded again! I wish he would put up pictures of coins, because the couple I've seen are wonderful. I will be interested to see if he can top the Apollo collection. Mr. Stokely is 5 coins away from a complete set. If he can average MS68 on these 5, my rough calculations show he would tie the Apollo collection. MS68 probably is not feasible because the coins might not exist in 68. So, I think he'll need to upgrade a few more in order to top the Apollo collection. Of course, once PCGS adds weights to Mercury dimes, who knows how the two sets will compare!
