Interesting two-cent piece and Seated Liberty dime with legend. I also like the dates you chose for the Liberty nickel with cents and Seated Liberty with stars dime (same date I chose for that slot), Reeded Edge half and Seated Liberty dollar with motto.
can't you get a sacagawea that does not have a big fat fingerprint on it?
I had not noticed the print, until it was photographed. I will replace it when I can get another free one (or one for $1).
Is that a '12-S for the Lib nickel?
It's a 12-D. I "upgraded" the 12-D in G I had from my boyhood collection.
Your two-cent coin is playing hookie, though. I guess it ran off with your seated Liberty dime and got two golds to fill in for them.
I had a couple of raw classic gold coins that needed a home. I like them better than the selections provided by Dansco.
do any coins fall out on occassion [sic] from their holes?
Some of the coins are loose, but they are protected on either side by slides, so they cannot fall out.
Nice 1868 Shield 5c tall date nestled in that album. What happened to the obv rim toning?
You said I would have to pay extra for the obverse toning, and I passed.
Many forum members (past and present) have contributed to this set by selling me or giving me coins. These include Tonelover, Tassa, Jade, Coinguy1, Legend, Keets, FC57, LucyBop, FatMan, BigBuffaloGuy, BigD5, Cladiator, stephunter, SDCollector, IGWT, Coinlieutenant, CharlotteDude, Russ, USCGCraig, mirabela, and probably others. Some coins are from my boyhood collectors and a subset of these are from my father's boyhood collection! Thanks for the props and constructive criticism.
I love the fact that you have blast white, rim toning and monster toning all going on at the same time!!! And although I don't collect them...I think the 1988 Silver Eagle looks amazing! Congrats!
<< <i>That is a great looking type set, I like almost every coin. How long did it take to put together? >>
When you consider that some of the coins were from my father's boyhood collection and were given to him by his grandfather, you could say that it took about 100 years!
Thank you for sharing. Since joining these boards and becoming familiarized with this "type set", I have been suggesting to almost everyone that they should try collecting coins this way. You're so ahead in the game, RYK.
Now THAT's one heck of a beautiful set!! I could die a happy man if I managed to put a set like that one together!!
Unfortunately, I never got into collecting the early American coins - - I started out with the blue Whitman folders for the coins that were out there when I started collecting from change, and eventually only worked myself as far back as IHC's, Liberty nickels, Mercury dimes, a few Standing Quarters, Walking Liberty halves, and Peace/Morgan dollars.................
So I can pretty much fill up a 20th Century set, but nothing like you've put together there!! It would be awesome to start putting together a few of the older coins as well due to their designs and history, but I'm afraid they're priced beyond my reach at this point.............
One funny note, however.... it seems one of the very few coins I DO have from that earlier time is one of the two you replaced with your gold coins! I was lucky enough to have a family friend start me off with a few 2 cent pieces a long long time ago. I love them! I wish we'd drop the Lincoln cent & go back to the 2-cent piece (same design, maybe slightly smaller size?)!
Because 3 pages of "nice type set" are not enough...
I gotta say yours looks really nice. great looking, evenly matched cents and the early copper has just the right amount of details. I like the white look on the commem halves also. Very nice type set...

Very nice set. Thanks for sharing.
It's not mine. I like the evolution of the reverse eagles on those quarters!

I have swapped bust halves for a more crusty one and replaced the fingerprinted Sac.
I have not replaced the two cent piece slot, nor the Legend seated die.
