Wow, that stinks. What a wierd way to go image
  • What a shame. Really nice friendly man. Met him at autograph show a few months ago. Signed mini-helmet with "Super Bowl #1 first TD". Took the time to talk and shake hands with everyone there. Class act , he will be missed

He'll be missed by a generation of Packers fans who remember him playing and another generation who grew up listening to him broadcast the games.

If there ever was a "fan favorite" Max McGee was the man!

    RIP, Max!

Yes...he had the first TD reception in Super Bowl history. As the story goes, he broke curfew the night before and showed up to the game worse for the wear. In fact, prior to the game, he told Boyd Dowler to not get hurt because he wasn't doing so well. Sure enough, Dowler got hurt early and McGee was put into the game. That first touchdown grab was behind him and as he put it, "I saw three balls out there and just grabbed one of them".

He was definitely a free spirit and one of the early characters of the game.
