I've been hit by a lot of spoof emails (Paypal & eBay)

Is it just me or are the spoof emails on the increase?
They are quite threatening at times too.
A couple I received lately.

Went through a few of them several months ago and sent them to Spoof or ebay for resolution. They always answer and the spam stopped for now.image
  • Unfortunatley a typical scam.

Just dont ever clik a link to answer it in the mail.

    You will be fine
Becoming informed but still trying to learn every day!

    Thanks for the advice guys.
I have past it on to the eBay and Paypal spoof teams.
Do you think they ever catch the crooks trying to steal your password and money etc?

I haven't seen an ebay or paypal spoof email for a longggg time. When I used the mn.rr.com account, I was getting them daily. Now that I use Google's email (gmail), I never see them. Maybe it's doing a good filtering job, or maybe they just haven't "found" me yet.

You're still getting them; it's just that gmail's spam filtering is excellent.

I use a gmail account as my primary email account. I have about 16 different email addresses due to all the different web sites I own, but they're all forwarders to a single gmail account for convenience. Because of all the different email addresses, I get between 1,000 and 4,000 spam emails A DAY (plus another 300-1,000 spam per day to my work email address because it's been active since 1993).

I get very few leakers, maybe 5-10 a day? Sometimes foreign language spam (Russian, Chinese, Korean) trips up gmail, and some of the spam that has random text + an image sometimes leaks through, although gmail has been getting better about it.

Just remember that with PayPal, any official email from them will contain your full first and last name (or business name if you registered as a business) and NOT "Paypal Member", "Valued PayPal Customer", or other generic term. It's a dead giveaway. Even still, never click on a link in any email; rather use a bookmark to go the the PayPal web site and log in.

I have received a couple of scam emails "from Paypal" with my full name in them.

I used to sell a lot of stuff on Ebay and I suspect one of my customers sold my name and email address to scammers.
