Home Buy, Sell, & Trade - U.S. Coins

A bona fide estate sale, unfortunately

[Note: on October 15th I posted this message on the US Coins forum. Perhaps this is the more appopriate one.]

Timothy J. Wheeler, my dad, died on August 4, 2007, in Clinton Corners, NY. He had just turned 70. Those of you who read National Review might remember him.

He was an on-again, off-again coin collector. He introduced me to the hobby in the 1970s; I remember exchanging whatever money I earned for rolls at the local banks and having a lot of fun looking for wheaties and war nickels.

His collection -- a few gold coins, a few hundred silver dollars, a little bit of platinum, a shoebox full of 1960s-1970s proof and mint sets, a couple of handfuls of slabbed coins, a set of Lincoln cents, and the usual assortment of cigar boxes and jars filled with god-knows-what, is with one of my sisters in New Jersey. After much consideration, we've decided to sell.

So: We would be very grateful for any advice regarding how to go about it. In particular, I guess we're looking for dealers or collectors in the NJ or NYC area who can either visit my sister in Highland Park, NJ or be available to take a look if she were to bring the coins in.

Many thanks.

ps: A large number of photos of his coins are available for viewing on Snapfish.com, but I think you have to be registered (which is free and fast) in order to see them. My sister can send a link to anyone who wants one.
