Need just the 1905-P Barber Half in PCGS XF45 in order to complete the set

Registry fans,

I'm also done. I need just the 1905-P in PCGS XF45 in order to complete my Barber Half sets in XF45. I spoke with M.r Q. David Bowers last November at Baltimore and he personally told me he had never seen a complete XF Barber Half set and thought it near impossible to put together.

I am willing to pay $500 for this coin. Coin trends for $315 and has a pop of 2. I currently have an AU50 that I might pocket piece if none come forward. I am also willing to pay a $100 finders fee for the coin.

It has taken me over 6 years to get this far. I would appreciate any help anyone can offer. Please PM me or email me at craiglizsam@hotmail.com.

Very respecftully,

Craig

    Craig,

What an outstanding collection of Barber Halves. That is one tuff set to put together. Finding them all in the same grade must have taken a LOT of time and effort.

Now you should do the whole set in say AU58! that would look nice too!image

    Again, great set!

Mike Hayes is attempting the set in AU58. He is at an almost similiar crossroads as me. His set is very nice as well.

Thanks for the compliments. It's taken well over 6 years to put this together and that is just due to the coins not being available.

Just crack out and submit your AU50 for grading a few more times. It's bound to bounce around in grade.

That is one super nice set! Congrats!

Thanks everyone. Yes, I peruse all those sites almost daily. I've even tried makign a few raw pieces I have found. This coin is just not out there. NGC only has a pop of 1 and it last sold at Heritage back in 2001.

Like I said, any help would be appreciated.

This is a collection that would be worth traveling to see. I hope you can display it someday (after you find the last coin of course).

I most certainly will show it. Glad there are folks who really appreciate the absolute difficulty in putting this together.

    Oh yeah,

I am upping the Finders Fee to $500 for a PCGS XF45 1905-P Barber Half. That is if you lead me to one. If you purchase it, I will pay the recipt price plus the $500.

So if any of you out there have a NGC AU50, this might be the catalyst to get you to send it to PCGS.

    Craig,

NGC has the 1905-P as a POP 5 in AU 50
NGC has the 1905-P as a POP 1 in XF 45

    Good luck.

$500 huh, maybe I'll crack out my XF 40 and hope for the best image

I'd say for $500 it might be worth doing if you think it has a shot.

Thanks for the NGC pops. Surprised none of us has seen one of the AU50's. Haven't even seen any on the NGC Registry site.

I just checked the NGC pop reports, no AU-53's listed. I thought that maybe an AU-53 could either be used for a pocket piece, or for a possible down grade to an XF-45. Oh well.

Ken Larson - aka: Eagle Harbour Collection - is selling off his halves - he has a nice 1905-P in au 50...

but, no need to worry about Craig anymore - he finally did the one thing we all say we'll do and are
scared stiff to try...he's already cracked out his 05-P in AU 50 - and its in his pants pockets with some
    old bronze cents.

Don't forget about it Craig - when you drop off the slacks at the dry-cleaners !!! image

My AU50 is in the pocket right now with a few pre-82 pennies. Hope it will be "ready" by the March baltimore show.

Just stand at the grading table and keep rubbing the coin and ask them to tell you when to stop so you hit XF45

I feel your pain. My AU58 lin set is going slow now (only doing 09-32 since very few non errors would be submitted in the AU58 range). Some of the 09-32 are not even worth submitting below MS65, so AU58BN might be impossible.

    WOW, What an accomplishment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who collects Barber coins, knows this was MUCH harder to do than an UNC set. All you need is money for the UNCS. They all can be found IF you have the $$$$$$$$, but XF45's are hard to find!

    Again, GREAT JOB Craig! image
