Vintage 8x10 photo Grover Cleveland Alexander

This has the same type of gloss and look as some 1930's and 40's movie stills I have so I'm assuming it is at least from that era. Does anyone know if it is worth anything?

...I guess it's not worth anything. I couldn't find any information on it either.

I'm sure its worth something. But it does not appear to be an original photograph....I'm sure if you put it on Ebay and describe it, someone will pay $20+ for it.

    Certainly a neat photo
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

The Cubs held Spring Training on Catalina Island, off the coast of California from 1921-1951. That would certainly fit into the time when Alexander was a Cub and he looks pretty old in the picture. The strange palm tree in the background I'm sure is not native but indicative of imported "California vegetation".

Since you described the picture stock as the same as the Hollywood pictures that are widely available from that era, it's certainly possible that they were produced by one of the same companies. I couldn't be from the awful movie about his life starring Ronald Reagan as that came out in 1952 and Ol' Pete died in 1950. It looks the same style as the movie stills with the printed name in the picture and all. Are there any stamps or markings on the back?

Not sure what it is worth, but I would certainly be interested if you can come up with a value.

That website sells copies of originals...I think airjoedan might have an original issue given the sepia tone and tack holes in the corners.
  • I can never get over how old he looks in pictures

When he pitched for the Cardinals in 26 against the Yankees in the world series he looked like he was in his 60s

He was with the Cubs from1918 to the beginning of the 26 season
