Fox network has to be rooting for the Red Sox

An Indians - Rockies matchup looks like a ratings disaster.

TBS ratings for Rockies-Diamondbacks were dismal, even in their hometowns.

Comments

  • They are. Kevin Kennedy has only been discussing Sox stuff. The first night they all said Sox in 4. Now look what is happening. Even my wife who doesn't follow baseball that much said that last night.
  • All goes back to the networks only pushing big market teams during the regular season...if they'd show some diversity during the regular season instead of just sox/yanks, and have some common sense during the playoffs (like not having games run until 2am EST), then ratings would actually be good.

But the east coast biased media would never allow that to happen, instead they'll point to the low ratings for the playoffs and world series and say 'see! we should never allow these teams on in prime time during the regular season!'

    Lame, lame, lame.

As lame and you want it to be, it isnt lame when they see their bank account grow. It's ALL about the ratings even during the regular season. If you are a business owner, what is your decision? Of course it's going to be what makes your wallet fatter. It's only common sense and good business. Watching other teams out of your region is what MLB season pass is for with your cable or dish company.

And who outside the most hardcore MLB fans are going to pay $150-$200 a season for it? image Especially for someone (most fans) who only follow one team and don't want to pay extra for all the other games.

Absolutely it is lame, anyone who thinks that there would be that dramatic a drop off during the regular season to show the Indians, the Tigers, etc. over the endless sox/yanks crap just doesn't get it.

The ratings during the regular season aren't that huge that showing some diversity would affect them at all, and all it would do is bring BETTER ratings come playoff time (oh that, and not putting games on at 9pst start times).

Good point and let me respond! How many, if not even going to pay 150-200 would be watching the small market teams on ESPN other than their regional fans? Not a whole lot. And those regional fans are probably already getting to see their team play on a local affiliate.

As for others that really dont get it, I certainly wouldnt want to hire someone who took their lame feelings over my profit.

Not for me. I'd rather watch the Indians - Rockies.

  • The "dream" matchup that Fox really wanted was Cubs-Yankees. Two large market teams, a great story line with the Cubs being hungry
for so long going against the team that has won it a gazillion times.

Rockies - Indians is GOOD for baseball.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I concur, Rockies Vs. Indians is great for baseball. (and i"m not counting out the Sox just yet, I just want my Tribe in the series!)

That's true but it's still the World Series, but you are right...it will most likely be a huge loss for Fox. Tough luck for them...and I couldn't give a chit....they wanna overpay for broadcast rights then that's their problem.
  • First pitch for the series games won't be until around 8:40 PM due to all of the pre game ceremony and hoopla. I wish it didn't start
    so late.

I agree. Excuse me for being a FAN but a Rockies-Indians WS would be a great set of games. I admit I was hoping for an Indians-Cubs WS but I root for anything that will make the American sports media cringe (aka a WS withOUT the Red Sox or Yankees).

  • Rockies-Indians would be great for baseball...count me in as one who wants to see it.

Why didn't people watch Arizona-Colorado? Are there that many front runners and so few real fans left in America? Who cares if they are teams you don't know anybody on, why weren't people watching? Just shows how pathetic the American public has become when it comes to watching baseball.

It also doesn't help to have 'TORRE WATCH! 2007' updated hourly with the 'still no news on Torre's future!' and Cashman's comments about Arod being reiterated every 10 minutes on ESPN. NOBODY CARES!

Why are these networks STILL focusing all of their energies on the g'damn yankees when there are so many great stories involving the Rockies: Tulowitzki, who should be ROY, Holliday, who should be MVP, Helton, first playoff appearance after so many years in the league...the transformation of the Rockies from trying to win every game 11-10 to actually playing fantastic defense (best fielding percentage by any team ever in 2007) and great pitching, etc. etc.

The continued focus on yankees/sox just mirrors the overall laziness of the media in this country.

Geeze, sounds like jealousy more than anything.

Who cares what the talking heads say. If you don't like it, change the channel or put it on mute.

It really is just that easy.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

No, actually its disgust that the world of sports reporting has devolved into 'nothing new at yankee camp...nothing new on arod's contract' instead of giving the people backstory to these teams playing. It's not jealousy, its ire at the lazy sports media for spoon feeding the american public moronic non-stories about non-happenings instead of focusing on the games.

And then they have the nerve to wonder why ratings stink?

Again with the selective quoting, huh?

I wan't Boston to win tonight, and game six. Then I'll get on the Cleveland/Rockies bandwagon. I'd like one series to go the distance and since the Rockies don't lose anymore really the WS will simply be four or five games right?
