It's sports cliche time you know.
It has been done before but they need a miracle now (darn those cliches just keep on coming).

They're behind the eight ball.
They're in a must-win situation.
They need a win to stave off elimination.
This is for all the marbles.
There's no tomorrow.
If you lose, you go home.
They’re down but not out.
They've got their backs against the wall.
<< <i>Manny being Manny >>
And lucky it isn't Bob Gibson or Don Drysdale on the mound in his next at bat after the homer.
[Edit to add: Is every playoff series destined to suck? Are any of them going to be close and exciting? The Sox could still make this interesting, but it feels like each series is a runaway.]
<< <i>Beckett and Schilling are next in line. This series is going to game 7. >>
Another cliche, where there is life there is hope. It would be nice to see a 7 game series for a change, makes it worthwhile to watch if the team you root for isn't in it.
"Put a fork in them, they're DONE".

I didn't say they'd win game seven, but I do believe they will play a game 7.
<< <i>As much as I love the team, I don't think they deserve to win. They should have benched the deadweights Drew, Lugo, and (maybe) Crisp a long time ago. And let's not get into GagMe. How the hell did he make the playoff roster? >>
Blame that one on the suits upstairs.

Him and Lopez. Tavarez and Corey would have been better choices.
