Addition to my W4I collection.

If you remember, I've picked-up and interesting Guadalajara mint overdate from Jeremy in August. It was a nice 1821/22 8 Reales. Well, I've received another one today. Haven't spent a lot of time analyzing it, yet - it's still soaking in acetone (there's some weird spots of red "stuff" on the reverse).
It's the only backward overdate in the the Portrait 8 Reales series that I am aware of. Makes you wonder how this die came to be.
Here's the one from August:

Here's the one I received today. It's a little beat-up and cleaned, but starting to re-tone:

Thanks, Jeff. The trick now is to keep finding something to photograph
Laurent - I love overdates, as well. My favorite, though, would have to be hand re-cut features sometimes found on these. In fact, some of the counterfeits I've purchased were solely due to how cool the hand-cut eagle or portrait looked.

<< <i>wow very nice coins, I love the toning on them. Do you have any pictures of the counterfeit recut Reales? Also do you use a professional camera with a micro lens + Camera Mount/stand? >>
Hi Meiji,
I use an older version of Canon Rebel DSLR (XT) with a 105 Sigma Macro lens. Currently using a tripod, but doing some research into copy stands.
Here are a couple of counterfeits with hand-cut elements (let's see if you spot tell-tale signs of these not being authentic

Yes most Durango has some crudeness to it, but the one you have is pretty bad. Where did you pick them up at? How much does the macro lens cost?
I also check eBay regularly, but there are counterfeit collectors that I have to compete with.
I am trying to arrange for a Library in the States to make me a hard-copy of Riddell's "Monograph of the Silver Dollar", which is a must-have for any early Mexican Republic counterfeit collector.

All you need to do is bring your camera to New York! Doesn't mean you get to take the coins home, though.

Andy, next time my business takes me to NY - i'll definitely stop by with a camera
Meiji, the Zacatecas piece looks fine, to me. Similar die to the one I have in my collection. Lima piece matches the plate coin in Calbeto for 1824, but I would love to check it out in-hand. I have a snipe on that auction, but I think it might go for more than I'm willing to pay. The 1811 piece is most interesting - thin plating on top of copper core, I think. Hard to tell from those pictures. I'm 99% sure that Swamperbob will end-up sniping this one.
