Need help recalling time point on history of Scott catalog

I've been in and out of stamp collecting over the years, often with gaps of many years (that and my memory is shot).
I recall there being a big run-up in Scott catalog values in the early 1980s, but didn't Scott do a major correction, reducing prices across the board? Wasn't that in the late 1980s? I don't remember exactly when that was.
Also, when did Scott shift to pricing stamps in the grade of VF? I recall that being quite a bit later...
